Cincinnati climbed to an even 2-2 on the year straight-up (3-1 against the spread) by knocking-off the previously undefeated Buffalo Bills 23-20 as a three-point home underdog. This followed a 13-8 loss to San Francisco in Week 3 as a 1.5-point home favorite. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of its first four games.

A couple of rookies have been leading the way on offense with quarterback Andy Dalton and wide receiver A.J. Green firmly implanted in the starting lineup, but it has been the Bengals’ defense that has helped the team get off to what has to be considered a surprising start. It is ranked first in the NFL in total yards allowed; giving up an average of 275.5 yards a game. They have also been tough to score on; giving up an average of just 18.5 points a game.

Jacksonville head coach Jack Del Rio shocked everyone when he decided to let his starting quarterback, David Garrard, go less than a week before the start of the regular season. First it was Luke McCown’s job and now it belongs to rookie Blaine Gabbert, but neither signal caller has had much success moving an offense that is currently ranked 31st overall and dead-last in scoring with a meagre 9.8 points a game. As expected, this has led to a 1-3 SU start (1-3 ATS) with three straight losses after pulling out a 16-14 victory over Tennessee on opening day as a one-point home favorite. Last week, the Jaguars lost to New Orleans 23-10 as nine-point home underdogs. This followed a 16-10 loss to Carolina as 3.5-point road underdogs in Week 3.

The Bengals are 5-0 ATS in their last five games as an underdog and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall. The total has gone ‘over’ in four of their last five games against the AFC.

The Jaguars is 5-1 ATS in their last six games as a home favorite, but just 1-6 ATS in their last seven games overall. The total has stayed ‘under’ in all four games this season.

Head-to-head, Cincinnati is 1-3-1 ATS in the last five meetings and 1-5-1 ATS in its last seven trips to Jacksonville. While the best bet in this matchup is probably the ‘under’, but stick with the Bengals to grind out a win on the road.

The Pick: Cincinnati 17  vs. Jacksonville 16
