NFC East Game Previews- Redskins vs Eagles

The Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles both close-out their 2011 campaign when the two NFC East rivals square-off at Lincoln Financial Field on New Year’s Day.

Date/Time: Sunday, Jan.1    1 p.m. (ET)
Venue: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA.

Redskins @ Eagles lines by BetOnline.com
Point spread: Eagles -10
Over/Under: 46.5

The game is set to get underway at 1 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast regionally on FOX.

Washington’s 33-26 loss to Minnesota last Sunday as a seven-point home favorite is just one more disappointment in another lost season for this team. The Redskins come into this week’s game at 5-10 straight-up and 7-8 against the spread. The total has gone 7-8 in their 15 games this year.

Most of the starting lineup for Washington on both sides of the ball could be auditioning for their jobs against the Eagles as it begins the process of looking toward next season in this meaningless game. Head coach Mike Shanahan’s job should be safe, but another poor outing could change things.

It was a clear case of too little, too late for Philadelphia’s late season rally as despite last Sunday’s20-7 romp over Dallas as a one-point road underdog, its division title hopes came to an end. The win raised its record to 7-8 both SU and ATS. The total has gone 8-7 in 15 games.

The Eagles should be a bit more motivated this Sunday as a win would keep them from posting a losing record for the year. It would also help to revitalize the dream for next season by closing-out this year with four straight wins. The offense continues to churn out yards and points with Michael Vick behind center and the defense has finally begun to live up to all the lofty expectations that were placed upon it at the beginning of the season. Washington is 6-1 ATS in its last seven games against the NFC East and 2-0-2 in its last four Week 17 games. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of its last six games overall.

Philadelphia is 4-1 SU this season against the NFC East and 4-0 ATS in its last four division games. The total has stayed ‘under’ in its last six games played in the division.

Head-to-head in this series, the road team is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings and the Redskins are 4-0 ATS in their last for trips to Philadelphia. The total has stayed ‘under’ in four of the last five meetings there.

The Eagles win this game, but take Washington to show some pride in defeat as it keeps things close enough to cover with the 10 points.

The Pick: Philadelphia 24 vs. Washington 16
