NFL Betting Previews – Buffalo Bills vs New England Patriots

The Buffalo Bills and the New England Patriots both close-out their regular season this Sunday afternoon at Gillette Stadium in a New Year’s Day battle between two AFC East rivals.

Bills vs Patriots lines by BetOnline.com
Point spread: Patriots -11.5
Over/Under: 51

Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. (ET) and the game will be broadcast on CBS.

Last Sunday, Buffalo snapped a brutal seven-game losing streak in style with a 40-14 romp over Denver as a 2.5-point home underdog. The win raised its record to 6-9 straight-up and 6-8-1 against the spread. The total has gone ‘over’ in 10 of its 15 games this year.

The 40 points scored against the Broncos was the most for the Bills since their 41-7 opening-day rout over Kansas City. During their seven-game slide, the Bills offense only managed to score an average of 14.3 points a game and was held to 10 or less points three times.

New England has had no problem lighting-up the scoreboard this season with an average of 30.9 points a game. Tom Brady has thrown for 4,897 yards and 36 touchdowns to lead an offense that is ranked second in the NFL in both passing and total yards per game. The ongoing concern for this team is a defense that has been ranked last in the league in both passing and total yards allowed all season long. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Despite an overall record of 12-3 SU (8-7 ATS), the Patriots need a win in this game to lock-up the No.1 seed in the AFC and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. They are 6-1 SU at home this season but just 3-4 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in 10 of their 15 games this season.

The Bills are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against the AFC East and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games on the road. The total has gone ‘over’ in nine of their last 11 games as underdogs.

The Patriots are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games against the AFC East. The total has gone ‘over’ in 22 of their last 29 games as favorites.

Head-to-head in this series, Buffalo is 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings and the total has stayed ‘under’ in nine of the last 12 games played in Foxborough.

The fact that New England needs to win this game does not bode well for the Bills chances to keep this game close, so stick with the Patriots to win and cover the 11.5 points at home.

The Pick: New England 35 vs. Buffalo 17
