NFL Game Previews – Houston Texans vs Jacksonville Jaguars
Matt Leinart and the Houston Texans will try and extend their current winning streak to five games this Sunday afternoon when they tangle with the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Field in this AFC South matchup. The kick-off is slated for 1 p.m. and the game will be broadcast regionally on CBS.

Houston extended its winning streak to four games with a 37-9 victory over Tampa Bay on Nov. 13 as a 3.5-point road favorite, but suffered a major setback in its march to the postseason with the loss of Matt Schaub to a possible season-ending injury to his foot. It is currently 7-3 straight-up (6-3-1 against the spread) and has a two-game lead over Tennessee in the division. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of its 10 games this year.
It will be up to Leinart to keep things rolling for the Texans even though he has not started a game in the NFL in two years. Fortunately, Houston’s vastly improved defense should be able to carry some of the load in this game especially against a Jaguars’ offense that is one of the worst in the league.
Jacksonville lost five of its first six games, but is 2-2 in its last four and has an overall record of 3-7 SU (4-5-1 ATS). It already lost to Houston 24-14 earlier in the season, but was able to force a ‘push’ as a 10-point road underdog. The total stayed ‘under’ the 41-point line and has stayed ‘under’ in nine of its 10 games this year. [soliloquy id=”82219″]
The Jaguars have to hope they can grind out a win against a rusty Leinart with a defense that is ranked third in the NFL in total yards allowed and fifth in points allowed; giving-up an average of just 18 points a game.
The Texans are 4-1 ATS in their last five games as road favorites and the total has stayed ‘under’ in six of their last eight games against the AFC.
The Jaguars are 2-7-1 ATS in their last nine games as underdogs. The total has stayed ‘under’ in their last five games against the AFC.
The home team in this series is 3-0-1 ATS in the last four meetings and Houston is 3-0-1 ATS in the last four games overall. The total has gone 3-3 in the last six games. Given the current situation, the ‘under’ appears to be the best play in this matchup, but stick with the Texans to persevere with Leinart to extend their winning streak to five.
