Despite winning 10 games last season, New York failed to make the postseason after losing the head-to-head tie breaker with Philadelphia. The Giants finished the season going 5-3 straight-up on the road and were 3-3 SU in the division.

If they hope to make it back to the playoffs this season, the Giants need quarterback Eli Manning to do a much better job at taking care of the ball than he did in 2010. Manning’s overall numbers were solid with over 4000 yards passing and 31 touchdown throws, but his 25 interceptions and five lost fumbles proved to be costly.

He still has a strong supporting cast in wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Mario Manningham and running backs Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs, so moving the ball and scoring points should not be an issue. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Taking over the reins before the start of the 2010 season, Washington head coach Mike Shanahan thought that landing Donovan McNabb as his new starting quarterback was the answer to turning this team around. Things did not go as planned and the Redskins stumbled to a 6-10 record and a last-place finish in the division. They were especially bad at home, going just 2-6 SU.

McNabb was traded to Minnesota, so the job now falls squarely on the shoulders of eight-year veteran Rex Grossman. He won the starting nod over John Beck, after the two battled it out throughout the preseason.

Washington will primarily rely on a running game led by Tim Hightower and fourth-round draft pick Roy Helu, but if Grossman has to try and win this game with his arm, look for wide receiver Santana Moss to be his primary target.

Tight end Chris Cooley could also be a major factor in the passing game, but he remains questionable for the opener with a bad knee.

The Giants are 4-1 against the spread in their last five trips to Washington and the total has gone ‘over’ in seven of the last 10 meetings here.

Stick with New York to continue its success on the road in this series with the opening-day victory.
