In spite of the fact that the Dolphins are 4-2 SU and 5-1 ATS in their L/6 meetings with the Colts, Indianapolis has been made a 3-point choice by the Bookmaker.com oddsmakers. The NFL betting ‘total’ chimes in at 42.

Indianapolis bettors probably should’ve done significantly better than a two-point victory against the Jaguars on Sunday afternoon. With just one glance at the statistics, any football bettor would’ve expected the Colts to have easily covered the 6.5-point spread. Indianapolis had almost eight more minutes of possession and 137 more yards of offense than Jacksonville did.

The big difference maker came in the form of two turnovers, one of which was an INT into the end zone thrown by QB Peyton Manning. Aside from that blunder though, Manning looked sharp in his ’09 debut. He completed 28 of his 38 passes for 301 yards and a touchdown. WR Reggie Wayne was phenomenal, catching ten passes for 162 yards and a score.

In spite of the fact that the defense didn’t record a turnover or a sack, the Colts held the Jags to 122 passing yards for the game. The 14-12 win marked the first victory in the head coaching career of Jim Caldwell.

After they added QB Pat White with their second round draft pick last year, the Dolphins were supposed to have a Wildcat attack that couldn’t be stopped. NFL bettors wouldn’t know it after the way that they played against the Falcons last Sunday. Miami’s offense was held to just 259 yards and one touchdown in its 19-7 loss at the Georgia Dome. QB Chad Pennington was efficient, going 21/29 for 176 yards with a TD and an INT, but he never really successfully stretch the field. As for the components of the Wildcat, RB Ronnie Brown only had 43 yards on ten carries, RB Ricky Williams carried the ball seven times for 39 yards, and White went 0/1 and had one run stuffed up at the line of scrimmage. The offensive line didn’t protect well either, as the unit allowed four sacks.

In total, the Fish turned the football over four times. At least on the defensive side of the ball, Miami held RB Michael Turner to just 65 yards on 22 carries. DE Jason Taylor recorded a sack in his first game back with the Dolphins.

The month of September has been particularly good for ‘under’ bettors for both teams. Miami is 10-2 to the ‘under’ in its L/12 Week 2 games, while Indy’s L/14 games in September have yielded ten ‘unders’ against just four ‘overs’. Both teams played in ‘under’ contests last week.
