Let’s take a look at the numbers:

Super rookie Russell Wilson will be back trying to build on a terrific rookie campaign that saw him amass 3,118 passing yards, 489 rushing yards, 30 touchdowns (26 passing, four rushing) and just 10 interceptions and he will have a new toy in town – Percy Harvin joins the team to make a good offense potentially electrifying.

But the Seattle brass didn’t stop at adding a receiver to the fold. The Hawks went out and got three of the most sought after defensive free agents on the market adding to what was one of the best defensive units in the league last year. Cliff Avril came over from Detroit to give Seattle’s pass rush instant credibility while Michael Bennett, formerly of the Buccaneers was added to further bolster what had been an average Seahawk pass rush. Former Viking Antoine Winfield will also be a new face in camp. He along with Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman will make up one of the best secondaries in the league.

Seattle’s offense has gone from vanilla to stellar in the matter of one year. Russell Wilson got it done last year with an average set of receivers. With Harvin in the fold and Sidney Rice apparently healthy, and with Golden Tate and Zach Miller (who really came on toward the end of last season), the Hawks should have a formidable passing game. There are a few concerns however – Rice and Harvin have been injury risks in the past but Harvin especially looks to be over the migraine issues that plagued him in Minnesota.

With the holes filled in the passing game, there should be a whole lot more room for Marshawn Lynch – arguably the most talented player on the Seahawks roster. Lynch rushed for 1,590 yards and 11 touchdowns last year, maintaining a yards-per-carry average of 5.0 behind an average offensive line and without the threat of a guy like Percy Harvin. Make no mistake about it – this team will live or die with Lynch and I like their chances. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

All told, the Seahawks could have one of the better offenses in the NFC – finally balanced and with a number of weapons that can run the ball as well as catch or throw the ball. It has all the makings of a fun year for Seattle fans indeed – mediocrity is simply not an option in 2013.

I have already touched on the defense but let’s revisit what the Seattle D brings to the table. They now have two elite pass rushers – something that was largely absent last year. They have an incredibly talented secondary that only got better with the addition of Antoine Winfield and they have a couple of talented linebackers in the form of KJ Wright and Bobby Wagner – and we haven’t seen the best of them yet! If defense wins championships the Hawks look to be on the right path indeed.

Seahawks Betting Outlook:

The one differentiating intangible that Seattle owns over the rest of the league is their home town crowd. They won all eight games at Qwest Field last year and will need a similar record in 2013. The Hawks are just 15-37 in their last 52 games on the road. Percy Harvin enters as one of the best kick returners in the league to further the weaponry in their arsenal.

The Seahawks are going for it all this year but still have to get by arguably the most hyped team in the NFL this year – the San Francisco 49ers. I don’t think they do it this year but a playoff spot and an 11-5 record is certainly in reach. They are one of the Super Bowl favorites this year and rightfully so.

Competition within their own division is the only thing that holds them back!
