A ton of hype surrounds the Denver Broncos this upcoming season in what is being described as a “Super Bowl or Bust” campaign. And why not? Let’s take a look at the numbers:

The Broncos will enter this year with no shortage of storylines. First of all, Vonn Miller will miss the first four games after getting popped for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. This is a huge blow to a team that lost Elvis Dummervil to the Ravens. Secondly, Peyton Manning got himself a new toy this offseason – sure-handed Wes Welker will join Erik Decker and Demaryius Thomas to make up arguable the best receiving corp. in the game. Thirdly, the Broncos will enter the season with an totally unproven running game – gone is Willis McGahee in favor of rookie Montee Ball who is expected to get the bulk of the carries out of the backfield for Denver.

Denver should still have a top tier offense – no doubt about it. Manning threw for 4659 yards last year and 37 TDs – his best season since 2004. And he now gets the pleasure of throwing to one of the best pass catchers in the NFL, Wes Welker who had 1354 yards receiving last year. With a year in a new system under his belt Peyton and the boys should light up the league and especially tear up what is looking like one of the weaker divisions in the NFL… again. The question is whether the running game can hold up their end of the bargain. We saw in Indianapolis that Manning alone can make up for the lack of a running game. But a Super Bowl contender absolutely has to have a running game. Time will tell if the Broncos have that!

As mentioned the Broncos lost Elvis Dummervil but they did pick up a few noteworthy starters for their already stout defense. Shaun Phillips, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Quentin Jammer only serve to bolster a defense that will likely have to only be good, not great for this team to succeed. Denver is scary on defense but only when Vonn Miller returns from suspension.

Broncos Betting Outlook:

The Denver Broncos have tons of talent on both sides of the ball and possess some intangibles that should make them a serious contender. Experience, a relatively easy schedule (11 teams they face failed to make the playoffs last year), and serious motivation to avenge an early playoff exit last year should propel this team deep into the playoffs at very least.

They are a virtual lock to win the AFC West this year and if you have faith in their unproven running game, they may be a decent bet to win it all this year. I see another 13-3 season as I expect them to go 2-2 in the first four games without Vonn Miller.

Denver is one of the handful of elite teams in the NFL and is my pick to win it all this year.

No excuses this time!
