Oakland Raiders Super Bowl XLIX Betting Lines & 2014 NFL Preview

2014 Oakland Predictions

The Oakland Raiders had a very tough year again. The fan base continues to support the players but the patience is beginning to run thin as expectations are for this team to no longer be at the bottom of the AFC.

2013 Record: 4-12
ATS: 7-8-1
Raiders odd to win the AFC West Conference: +1800
Raiders odds to win the AFC Conference Championship: 50-1
Raiders odds to win the 2014 Super Bowl: 100-1

Let’s take a look at the numbers

Looking to improve on a very poor season, Oakland went out and added veterans looking to add the leadership that they have been lacking.

QB Matt Schaub, RB Maurice Jones-Drew, WR James Jones and DE Justin Tuck are just a handful of players the Raiders signed to add the direction.

Looking to change the culture, Dennis Allen and the Raiders GM have the veterans needed , to change the locker room and hopefully win some games.

The biggest difference with this offseason and the ones before for the Raiders, was that they actually went out and added veterans. And all of the key veterans they brought in have playoff experience.

That knowledge and experience will hopefully rub off on the new younger Raiders.

Last year, Oakland used three different starting quarterbacks and neither of them was any good.

To solidify the position, Schaub was signed to give the Raiders the passing attack they have been missing so badly. Schaub had a very bad falling out in Houston, but his leadership should help turn around an offense that only mustered 20.1 points per game, making them the 24th worst offense in the league in 2013-14. The big name free agents are hopefully the answer for the Raiders success.

Meanwhile, the Raiders struggled enormously on the defensive side of the ball as well last season.

They allowed 28.3 points per game which made them 29th out of 32 teams.

The Raiders pass rush defense against the pass was atrocious, which is why they signed DE Justin Tuck, DE Lamarr Woodley and CB Carlos Rogers.

In addition to adding through free agency, the Raiders also used their top draft pick on OLB Khalil Mack.

Mack to some was the best player in the whole draft. Instead of using their top pick on a wasted position as in seasons past, the Raiders drafted very wisely taking Mack, as he has the goods to become the Raiders defensive anchor for many years to come.

Oakland Raiders Betting Outlook:

Despite being 4-12 on the season, the Raiders were an average 7-8-1 ATS and 7-8-1 O/U. This mark isn’t horrible especially considering how horrible of a season they had.

Being such a poor team, Oakland routinely found itself as the underdog, giving bettor’s points to play with.
This year, it will be different, as Oakland has added several members at important positions.

This new personnel, I expect will lead the Raiders to a 7-9 record and will be a great step towards a brighter future in Oakland.
