In one of the marquee matchups of Week 8 the New York Giants attempt to avenge a loss earlier this season at home to the Dallas Cowboys. Despite a ton of criticism in the Lone Star State the Cowboys remain in the thick of the NFC East but a win Sunday is absolutely crucial for this team to take another step toward legitimacy.

In their way is a New York Giants team that seems to be getting better as the season wears on and a team that is finding new ways to win each and every week.

The New York Giants dodged a bullet in Week 7 squeaking out a win against the Washington Redskins. They did some good things in that game that should serve them well going into Week 8 however – the running game keeps producing, Eli Manning has shown no signs of slowing down and the defense did a good job of containing the uncontainable Robert Griffin III.

The Giants enter Sunday’s showdown with the third best passing game in the league with an average of 295 yards per game. Eli Manning has been sensational this year and Victor Cruz has been terrific but the health of Hakeem Nicks and the emergence of Matellus Bennett has taken this team to a different level. The Dallas cornerback tandem of Brandon Carr and Maurice Claiborne have been good this year and they were largely effective in the teams’ first meeting. But the Giants have kicked up their production a notch or two since then.

The Giants own the 12th ranked running game in the NFL but Ahmad Bradshaw is looking like a man possessed at the moment. Look for the Giants to ride the momentum gained by their running game again this week.

New York’s defense, like last year has taken some time to come around. They have looked better the last couple of weeks and should continue to improve. After all, they are a very talented bunch!

The Dallas Cowboys had one of their better all around games in Week 7 but barely beat a bad Carolina team. Tony Romo was terrific in the first meeting between the clubs this season but he was aided by 131 yards from DeMarco Murray who kept the pressure off. Murray`s availability this week is still up in the air. His presence is essential for the Cowboys against New York – Felix Jones scares absolutely nobody!

Dallas comes into Sunday’s game with the 7th best passing offense in the game. Miles Austin finally looks to be rounding into form, Dez Bryant has proven that he can be The Man and there is always Jason Witten. Limiting mistakes is key, obviously for this offense – they have been prone to the occasional boo-boo. They simply can’t afford mistakes against New York’s opportunistic defense. As mentioned, the availability of DeMarco Murray is crucial this week. The Cowboys own the leagues 20th ranked running game but with Felix Jones getting the touches they certainly aren’t all that scary. This means that the game could be put squarely in the hands of Tony Romo who doesn’t exactly respond well to those situations!

The Dallas defense has improved – they are 3rd best against the pass allowing just 187 yards per game but they are 15th against the run allowing 105 yards per game. The Dallas D held their own in New York Week 1 and will have to be stout again in Week 8.

Betting Prediction

  •  The total has gone UNDER in 5 of the NY Giants last 5 games on the road
  •  NY Giants are 7-1 SU in their last 8 games on the road
  •  NY Giants are 11-2 SU in their last 13 games
  •  The total has gone UNDER in 4 of the NY Giants last 5 games
  •  The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Dallas’s last 9 games
  •  The total has gone OVER in 5 of Dallas’s last 7 games when playing at home against NY Giants
  •  The total has gone OVER in 5 of Dallas’s last 7 games when playing NY Giants
  •  The total has gone OVER in 13 of Dallas’s last 19 games at home

The Dallas Cowboys simply look like an average team at the moment while the Giants look top tier once again. With a balanced and confident attack, I like the Giants to take this one on the road. Who do you trust more Eli of Tony?

Ahmad Bradshaw or Felix Jones?

Exactly!

Pick: New York Giants -1
