Brees is looking to become the only player in history to pass for 300 plus yards in 10 straight games. He tied his own record last week of 9. Can the Bears defense stay stout against a man on a mission?

New Orleans

Drew Brees has chased and set a lot of records in the last few years. Each time, his teammates go out of their way to help him get each respectable record. This week is a true testament to how badly the Saints want to get Brees that record, going against a seemingly always stout Bears defense.

So far, Brees has completed 111 of 166 passes for 1,434 yards, 10 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. His biggest target so far has been tight end Jimmy Graham. On the season, Graham has 27 catches for 458 yards and 6 touchdowns. Graham’s 458 yards and Brees’ 1,434 are both second in the NFL in their categories.

On the ground, the Saints have had their issues. Between injuries and incidents, New Orleans seems to roll out a new crew of running backs. This year, they have gone with four backs. Pierre Thomas is leading the ground game with 29 carries for 101 yards and Darren Sproles has 22 carries for 93 yards and a touchdown.

On defense, Rob Ryan has improved the unit greatly. Kenny Vaccarro leads the team in tackles with 19 and also has 2 passes defended and an interception. Cameron Jordan is leading the team in sacks with 4, but opposite him on the defensive line is Junior Gallette with 3 sacks. Jordan has a forced fumble while Gallette has a fumble recovery and a pass defended.

Chicago

Jay Cutler has been up to his old antics lately. Last week, Cutler turned the ball over 4 times against Detroit which doomed the Bears in the end. This week, Cutler wants to go back to the form he was in for weeks 1 through 3. On the year, Cutler is 95 of 148 with 1,010 yards, 8 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

On the ground, Matt Forte has been his usual self. 5th in the NFL in rushing, Forte has 69 carries for 320 yards and 3 touchdown. He also has 24 catches for 158 yards. Who else would be leading in receiving other than Brandon Marshall? Marshall has 27 catches for 348 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Tight end Martellus Bennett is next with 20 grabs for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns. Also over 200 yards is Alshon Jeffery who has 18 catches for 211 yards and a touchdown. The Bears have also used Jeffery in the running game, with 57 yards on the season.

The defense has been enigmatic. While they have 14 takeaways, they have also allowed 28.5 points per game. Lance Briggs is leading the defense with 26 tackles and has a sack, 2 forced fumbles and 5 passes defended. Leading the team in sacks is D.J. Williams with 2 while Charles Tillman and Major Wright both have 2 interceptions on the year.

Betting Trends

• Over is 9-1 in Saints last 10 vs. a team with a winning record.
• Over is 4-1 in Saints last 5 games in October.
• Over is 4-0 in Saints last 4 games in Week 5.
• Over is 6-0 in Bears last 6 games overall.
• Over is 4-0 in Bears last 4 games on grass.
• Over is 4-0 in Bears last 4 vs. NFC.

Prediction: Take the over.

With the Bears defense allowing so many points per game and Drew Brees coming to town, things could get really ugly. While the Saints are known for a soft defense, they have toughened up this year. This could turn into a shootout if the past repeats itself.
