The Redskins have been playing better football as of late but as is the case in the NFL that doesn’t always translate into wins. They have lost their last two games, both to division rivals, by a combined four points. Last week against Philadelphia it was the first time the Skins were thoroughly outplayed and this team hasn’t quit. After years of stock piling top dollar free agents and luring expensive coaches, it’s time for the Redskins to try another tact as this approach simply isn’t working. Jason Campbell has thrown just 12 touchdowns against 11 interceptions which just doesn’t get it done in the NFL. The Washington defense should get some big help this week as they get Albert Haynesworth back in the lineup. Haynesworth is the type of defensive tackle who makes the entire defense better though his impact hasn’t been what they had hoped when they signed him.

The New Orleans Saints put toghether perhaps their most impressive performance of the season in a season of impressive performances as they starched the New England Patriots on Monday Night Football. It’s tough to come up with enough superlatives to describe this year’s version of the Saints but as well as they are playing, they haven’t clinched anything as far as playoffs and home field advantage go.

The Saints can wrap up the NFC South but home field advantage throughout the playoffs is a long way off as the Minnesota Vikings have just one loss themselves. What makes the New Orleans run even more amazing are the seemingly endless run of injuries the team has sustained. The Saints injury list is as long as any team in the league, at what point does that start to add up?

Washington is just 2-9 against the spread in their last 11 home games but they are 5-2-2 against the spread in their last nine games as an underdog. New Orleans is 7-1-1 against the spread in their last nine road games and 6-2 against the spread in their last eight against a team with a losing record. The road team has covered in four of the past five meetings between these two.

This just seems like a lot of points for a team who can play solid defense like the Skins and especially a team that allows just 170 yards per game through the air. It’s been the defense that keeps Washington close. Unfortunately, I think the offense is what does in the Redskins here as the Saints seem to be immune to tough defenses and their own defense is opportunistic and good for a score almost every time out. This might be a lower scoring Saints game than we have grown accustomed to but it they still should be able to cover this tough spread.
