New Orleans Saints Super Bowl XLIX Betting Lines & 2014 NFL Preview

2014 Saints Season Predictions

Another NFL season is upon us and once again the New Orleans Saints are expected to be one of the elite squads challenging for a Super Bowl title. The reason? Drew Brees who seems to be getting better with age, Sean Payton who has to be considered one of the best coaches in the game and the Superdome.

  • New Orleans Saints Odds to win the 2015 NFC Conference 15/2
  • New Orleans Saints Odds to Win the 2014 NFC South -140

The Dome – one of the two toughest road buildings to play in the NFL. The big question mark ahead of this season is – will the Saints improved defense be good enough to carry this team to the promise land or is this team still a bit too one-sided?

We know that the New Orleans Saints will score – Drew Brees is coming off his third-consecutive 5,000-yard campaign, Jimmy Graham off an 86 catch, 1,215 yard, 16 TD season is happy and wealthy man and Marques Colston is apparently over the foot issues that plagued him for the first part of the 2013 season.

Kenny Stills averaged 20 yards per catch last year, the Saints drafted Brandin Crooks who set Pac-12 records for the most receptions (128) and most receiving yards (1,730) and running back Khiry Robinson could be the breakout star of the 2014 NFL season – yikes!

The Saints traded Darren Sproles in the offseason which creates a huge void both in the passing and rushing attack. But the aforementioned Khiry Robinson looks ready to step up and the reliable Pierre Thomas still exists to eat up chunks of yards.

Simply put there are few teams with the offense of the Saints – they have and will continue to find a way to put points on the board and should win their share of games. If they are to take the next step New Orleans is absolutely going to need to get continued solid play from the…

Defense was a nice surprise for the Saints last year. They ranked second in opposing passing yards with a 194.1 yard average and 19th in opposing rushing yards at 111.6 yards/game and only got better in the offseason with the additions of Champ Bailey and super-safety Jairus Byrd who comes over from Buffalo.

Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan has made something out of a unit that was absolutely brutal in 2012. Jairus Byrd and Kenny Vaccaro make up one of the better safety tandems in the league and Champ Bailey playing alongside Keenan Lewis is a formidable cornerback pair.

Saints Betting Prediction:

The Saints are 40-11 the last six years at home and they went 8-0 at the Superdome last year. It is hard to imagine much of a drop-off here. That means that they will have to go just .500 on the road to have a 12-4 season.

With road dates against the Falcons, the Cowboys, the Lions, the Browns, the Bucs and the Panthers, it is easy to see that a .500 road record is attainable to say the least.

New Orleans should run away with the NFC South but winning the Conference and even the Super Bowl is a different type of task. The road to the Big Game will likely run through Seattle or San Francisco this year – I don’t like ANY team in the NFL to go into either of those stadiums and win in January.

Take the Saints to re-take the NFC South but to fall short in the NFC Championship game.
