Packers vs. Bears: Monday Night Football Week 3 Lines

While many projected the Packers would be right where they are after week two, few could have predicted the Bears to be this balanced heading in to week three. Oddsmakers currently have the Packers listed as 3-point favorites, the total is set at 46. Here is a preview and free Monday night betting pick…

Monday Night Football Betting – Packers, Bears Renew Their Rivalry On MNF

Two of the most storied franchises in NFL history renew acquaintances at Soldier Field this Monday night, with top spot in the NFC North on the line. The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears are both undefeated through the first two games of the 2010-11 season, but only one will be able to leave the Windy City this Monday with that perfect record still intact.

How Can Green Bay Win?

Led by one of the fastest rising stars in the game under center, the Packers have started the season with back-to-back wins to pull ahead of the Minnesota Vikings and Detroit Lions for top spot in the NFC North. Now quarterback Aaron Rodgers will have to continue his excellent play when Green Bay heads to Soldier Field to battle the 2-0 Bears.

The Packers lost running back Ryan Grant week one, but Brandon Jackson was able to handle the goal line carries week two, while fullback John Kuhn even got in on the action.

Green Bay’s 3-4 defense looks better every week as the team continues the transition after making the switch from the 4-3 before last season, and will need to find ways to get after Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler and force him in to turnovers.

How Can Chicago Win?

Interceptions were Cutler’s calling card a year ago when he led the league, but that isn’t the case this season under offensive coordinator Mike Martz. Martz has found a solid balance between run and pass, and helped Cutler to limit his mistakes while capitalizing on the playmaking ability of receivers Devin Hester and Johnny Knox among others.

Chicago’s defense is not the elite unit it was when the Bears lost to the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl a couple of years ago, but linebacker Brian Urlacher and company have been solid the first two weeks in limiting the Lions and Dallas Cowboys to an average of 17 points per game.

Outlook

While the Bears have started the season strong with a couple of key victories, most notably winning a game in Dallas week two that most projected they had little chance in, the Packers are for real. Green Bay’s offense rivals the best in the league, and their defense is undoubtedly one of the better units in the league.

This week, the Packers will continue chasing their NFC Championship aspirations with a win over Chicago in a key divisional match up.
