Monday Night NFL Betting – Ravens Roll On Monday Night

The Houston Texans host the Baltimore Ravens in a sexy Monday Night Football matchup this week but there is a big difference between the two teams. With five losses in their last six games, Houston has proved that they don’t belong with the big boys in the NFL while Baltimore has clearly shown it does.

How Can Baltimore Win?

Abuse the Texans pass defense. Houston has the league’s worst secondary (statistically) and they have been shredded by almost every quarterback in the NFL. Baltimore’s passing unit, that features Joe Flacco, Anquan Boldin and many other weapons, shouldn’t have a problem doing exactly the same.

The Ravens running game hasn’t been as fluid as it has last season but the Texans defense is going to be off-balance trying to defend the pass, so Ray Rice should find some room to run.

But the biggest difference in this game is that while both teams have quality offenses, only one of them has a good defense. The Ravens will get some stops while the Texans won’t.

How Can Houston Win?

Get their offense in gear. The Texans offense can light it up and while the passing game isn’t what it was in 2009, they might be able to rekindle the fire on Monday Night Football.

The Texans have run the ball very well this season with Arian Foster, who leads the NFL in rushing, so the Ravens will be keying in on him. If the Texans can mix in play-action passes right off the bat and catch the aggressive Ravens cheating, they can turn this contest into a shootout.

Baltimore does have the better defense but their cornerbacks are the weak link. The Texans wide receivers, like Andre Johnson, should have an easy time beating them off the line. It will also help to get Owen Daniels back in the lineup, who is among the best tight ends in the NFL when healthy.

Outlook

This is just a mismatch. The Ravens are fighting for a playoff spot while the Texans don’t have much to play for. Save for the loss to Cincinnati early in the season, the Ravens have exclusively lost to elite teams (Atlanta, New England and Pittsburgh). Meanwhile, Houston has lost five of their last six games and their only win in that stretch came to the Rusty Smith-led Tennessee Titans.

More importantly, rumors surfaced this week that Texans head coach Gary Kubiak might be eyeing the new job opening in Denver and when you’re facing a team like Baltimore, the slightest distraction can throw everything off-kilter.

Lay the points with the Ravens, who need this win and are the better team.

Pick: Ravens -3
