Although it is still early in the season, both teams are coming off Week 8 losses and both absolutely need wins to stay in the NFC Wild Card picture.

The Minnesota Vikings came out of the gate very strong this season to the shock of most industry experts. Christian Ponder took a lot of the praise for their early success along with a rejuvenated Adrian Peterson. But the struggles lately have largely been pinned on Ponder – it’s a fickle world!

Minnesota was among the best the first four weeks of taking care of the ball and conducting themselves efficiently and effectively.

But the offense in particular has fallen back to earth in recent weeks. All together, Minnesota owns the league’s 27th ranked passing game and the 7th best running game in the NFL – thank you Adrian Peterson!

Lately the Vikes’ affinity to limit mistakes has abandoned them – hence the slight slump and disappearance of blind optimism. Christian Ponder has thrown seven interceptions in the last four weeks, the team has been guilty of numerous fumbles and the team has looked a tad out of sync as demonstrated during their Week 8 loss at home on National TV to the average Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Vikings defense has been there to bail them out at times however. This unit has shown drastic improvement over last year and is 12th in the league against the pass and 16th versus the run.

The Seattle Seahawks have not been a very good road team the last few seasons and two straight losses away from CenturyLink has them two games behind the first place 49ers in their division all of a sudden. But they are terrific at home as evidenced by their wins over Dallas, Green Bay and New England already. A win is crucial this week for Seattle – they have to take advantage of an enormous home town crowd the rest of the way! [soliloquy id=”82219″]

As it stands, Seattle has the second worst passing game in the NFL but Russell Wilson has shown glimpses, Sidney Rice has started to develop a rapport with his rookie QB and Golden Tate has been a nice big play compliment. And then there is Marshawn Lynch and Seattle’s 8th best running game. When playing well, there are few others more difficult to bring down than Lynch. Like the rest of his team, Lynch is much better at home than on the road.

Seattle’s defense has been terrific all season long – 13th against the pass and 5th against the run. Tampa Bay was made to look like an All-Star calibre defense against the Vikings last week – Seattle has a chance to batter them even more!

Betting Prediction:

• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Minnesota’s last 5 games when playing on the road against Seattle
• The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Minnesota’s last 7 games
• Minnesota is 4-2 SU in its last 6 games
• The total has gone UNDER in 10 of Minnesota’s last 15 games on the road
• Seattle is 5-1 SU in its last 6 games at home
• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Seattle’s last 5 games when playing at home against Minnesota
• The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Seattle’s last 8 games
• The total has gone OVER in 12 of Seattle’s last 17 games at home

I, like so many have learned their lesson about betting against Seattle at home. It will take some incredible circumstances for me to go against them again this season. Seattle didn’t play that poorly in a loss last week – Minnesota did! I like the Seahawks to build off that tough loss and ride their 12th man to a relatively easy win this week. Seattle’s defense was torched last week – they will be in a bad mood, they will be hungry and they will be the difference.

Pick: Seattle Seahawks -5
