Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Diego Chargers Preview

On the season the Chiefs are 3-2 ATS and they have an O/U record of 2-3 and the Chargers are 5-1 ATS and they have an O/U record of 3-3.

This season the Chargers are 3-0 at home and the Chiefs are 1-2 on the road.

In their last games the Chargers beat the Chargers beat the Oakland Raiders 31-28 and the Chiefs lost to the San Francisco 49ers 22-17.

The Chargers are tied for the best record in the NFL, but nobody is really talking about them. They have won 5 in a row and while they beat the Seahawks to start that streak they have beaten 4 weak teams since. In their last game they were not overly impressive, especially on defense, in their win over the Raiders, bit they are at home this Sunday and are the betting favorite facing the Chiefs.

The Chiefs had their 2-game winning streak snapped in their last game and while they played the weakest schedule in the league last season that is not the case this season, as in 3 of their last 4 games they have faced the Patriots, Broncos, and 49ers.

The Chargers are winning because of great play from QB Phillip Rivers and strong defense. However, while they rank in the top 10 in the league in both pass and run defense they gave up 282 passing yards and 114 rushing yards in their narrow 3-point win over Oakland last week.

Rivers passed for over 310 yards in the Oakland game with 3 TD and 0 INT. He only has 2 INT on the season and it helps that he has a great WR corps led by Malcolm Floyd and Eddie Royal, who are each averaging over 14 yards per catch and have combined for 8 TD. Rivers will be tested in this game by a KC pass D that ranks 7th in the league and a good Chiefs pass rush.

The Chargers are still without the injured Ryan Mathews, but rookie Branden Oliver has come out of nowhere and has rushed for over 100 yards in 2 straight games. Not good for the Chiefs, who only rank 23rd in the league in run defense.

Alex Smith has been decent this season, but not great and he has a less than stellar WR corps. However, he does have 7 TD and only 1 INT in his last 3 games. Still the one player the Chargers have to worry about is RB Jamaal Charles, who has been running the ball well since coming back from an injury. He and Knile Davis are a legit 1-2 duo for the rushing attack, which is the strength of the Kansas City offense.
