Kansas City

Right now though things look even bleaker than they ever did in that first losing run because they have lost their starting QB in Matt Cassel and backup Tyler Palko is not getting it done.  They have brought in Kyle Orton but as we saw with Carson Palmer it can be hard to join a team in midseason and find a rhythm.

Troubles at QB get the most attention but this team is a shell of what it was last season.  Last year they had one of the top running games but without Jamaal Charles they are averaging just 120 yards per game.  Also, last year they had an exciting young defense that made big plays.  This year they are 20th in yards allowed and 23rd (23ppg) in points allowed.  Not good enough when you are averaging less than 14 points per game.

Despite performing below expectations the Chiefs have managed to stay in the black with a 6-5 ATS record.  These two teams don’t play each other regularly but the home team has won 4 straight which goes all the way back to 1996.

The Chiefs have covered the two games they have played in this millennium, most recently in 2007.

Chicago

Chicago is having a sneaky good season and is right in the middle of the playoff race in the NFC.  Unfortunately it is hard to handicap how this team will finish without Jay Cutler at QB.  Even though they lost last week they kept pace with division mate Detroit which is important.   [soliloquy id=”82219″]

They have a very favourable schedule from hear on out if they can solve their QB issues and get solid production.

Caleb Hanie got the start last week and it looks like he will again on Sunday.  Lucky for him he has one of the most versatile weapons in the game at his disposal in running back Matt Forte.  Forte leads the team in rushing and receptions and can help them control the game on offense, provided they have at least some semblance of a passing game to keep opponents honest.  He essentially is their offense.

It will be interesting to see the way this season plays out for Chicago.  As long as Hanie doesn’t screw it up they should be able to win this week, although those juice 8 points invite some action on the Kansas City side.

When this team gets special teams and defensive TDs (which is often) they are very tough to beat.  When they don’t they struggle to generate consistent offense.

KC seems ripe to make some mistakes that will help the Bears cause.

ATS Pick:  Kansas City +8
Over/Under Pick:  Over
Score Prediction:  Chicago 27 – Kansas City 20
