KC vs Oakland Betting

AFC West Have-Nots Do Battle in Week 15 – Chiefs at Raiders

Two of the worst teams in the worst division in the NFL will try to save a little face when the 2-11 Kansas City Chiefs pay visit to the 3-10 Oakland Raiders in Week 15. Both teams have been seriously underwhelming all season long – the only silver lining being the fact that both are destined to get a high pick in the 2013 draft.

Not a great consolation for two teams expected to show marked improvement in 2012!

The Kansas City Chiefs had an excuse for their futility last season – injuries from the outset doomed them. This year health has not been an issue – the team is just bad on both sides of the ball.

The Chiefs enter Sunday’s showdown second last in the league in scoring – just 15.00 points per game. The passing game has been the culprit – 31st in the NFL with an average of 186.38 yards per game. Brady Quinn has completed 60.6 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and five interceptions while being sacked 12 times.

Dwayne Bowe is KC’s leading receiver but he has been ruled out of this game with injury, Dexter McCluster has 41 catches and Tony Moeki has 28 catches.

It’s a good thing for Jamaal Charles and the KC running game that is 5th in the NFL with an average of 149.23 yards per game on the ground. Jamaal Charles is averaging 5.1 yards per carry with four touchdowns and he has caught 30 passes and Peyton Hillis is averaging 3.2 yards per carry.

Kansas City’s defense has been poor this season but they likely won’t have to be great against Oakland’s struggling offense. The Chiefs are a surprisingly decent 9th against the pass but they are an awful 27th versus the run. Kansas City gives up 27.08 points per game – 27th in the NFL.

The Oakland Raiders haven’t been much better than the Chiefs this season. With just three wins on the season and no real optimism going forward the outlook is far from rosy for the Black and Silver. The Raiders do own the 7th best passing game in the NFL thanks in large part to the garbage time yards that they have amassed but they are a miserable 30th in rushing thanks to Fantasy bust Darren McFadden and crew.

Carson Palmer has completed 60.8 percent of his passes with 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions while being sacked 26 times. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Darren McFadden is back after missing several games and he is averaging 3.4 yards per carry and he has 33 catches and he is clearly Oakland’s best player – not saying much! Brandon Myers has 70 receptions and four touchdowns, Marcel Reece has 47 catches, and Denarius Moore has 42 catches and six touchdowns.

Oakland’s defense has been absolutely dreadful this season – dead last in points against with an average of 30.92 points surrendered per game! Ungood! This unit is 28th against the pass and 26th versus the run. They stop nobody!

Betting Prediction:

A few trends to consider:

• Kansas City is 8-1 SU in its last 9 games when playing on the road against Oakland
• The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Kansas City’s last 7 games when playing on the road against Oakland
• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Kansas City’s last 5 games
• The total has gone UNDER in 12 of Kansas City’s last 15 games when playing Oakland
• The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Oakland’s last 7 games when playing at home against Kansas City
• The total has gone UNDER in 12 of Oakland’s last 15 games when playing Kansas City
• Oakland is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games when playing Kansas City
• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Oakland’s last 5 games

All signs point to this being an ugly game. I look to which team has the best player – in this case it is the Jamaal Charles of the Chiefs. He gets a crack at Oakland’s 26th ranked run defense and should feast on Sunday. While I don’t like either team, I like the Chiefs just a bit more. Take the road team to add to the misery in Oakland.

Pick: Kansas City Chiefs +3
