The Chiefs are coming off a game last week in which they deserved a better fate against Indianapolis while the Broncos won their tenth straight and dominated against the Cleveland Browns.

The Kansas City Chiefs have had yet another lost season but judging by their effort in Week 16 they aren’t giving their opposition any wins. They outgained Indianapolis last week 507-288 and Jamaal Charles went off for 226 yards on the ground.

The result unfortunately was another loss for a team that has a few pieces in place but still has a lot of work to do in the offseason in order to be competitive next year.

The problem for the Chiefs – the quarterback position. The Chiefs enter the final week of the season with the league’s second worst passing offense. Brady Quinn or Bryan Hoyer is the starter Sunday – not much optimism has been associated with either since college. Their pro numbers reflect this fact that neither is the answer for the down-trodden Chiefs.

Thank goodness for Jamaal Charles and the Chiefs 5th ranked running game. The runners are averaging 153.47 yards per game and are making this team competitive at least. The rushing game is the only thing going in KC – just ask Dwayne Bowe!

The Chiefs defense could also use a major overhaul although the anemic offense can almost solely be blamed for KC’s futility. The Chiefs are 9th against the pass but 26th versus the run. They give up 25.8 points per game – 25th in the NFL.

How about them Broncos? They are serious, legitimate Super Bowl contenders despite defeating just two playoff calibre teams during their 10 game win streak. Still, Denver is perhaps the most balanced team in the AFC – offense and defense are playing at an extremely high level ahead of the impending playoffs. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Broncos enter Sunday’s Regular Season finale as the second best scoring team in the NFL – 29.53 points per game. They own the 6th best passing attack and the 18th ranked running game. Everything is clicking for the Broncos – it is hard to see them not scoring a ton on one of the worst teams in the league.

The Denver Broncos offense has emerged as one of the elite squads in the NFL but it is the defense that makes the Broncos a serious contender for the Super Bowl this year. They are 6th against the pass, third against the run and they allow just 19.07 points per game – 5th in the NFL. True this unit will have their hands full with Jamaal Charles but with their ability to focus on the Chiefs running game alone, Denver should have no problem slowing the KC offense.

Betting Prediction

:

A few trends to consider:

• The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Kansas City’s last 7 games
• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Kansas City’s last 5 games when playing Denver
• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Kansas City’s last 6 games on the road
• Kansas City is 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games
• Denver is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
• Denver is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games at home
• Denver is 9-2 SU in its last 11 games when playing at home against Kansas City
• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Denver’s last 5 games when playing Kansas City

I normally stay away from enormous points spreads but in this case, 16 points seems reasonable. The Broncos enter Sunday’s game better in almost every aspect of the game! Denver will key on Jamaal Charles – the Broncos have risen to the occasion against elite running backs all season long. That said Denver should control this game on their way to an easy win. There is no way Peyton Manning allows a letdown in this one!

Pick: Denver Broncos -16
