Kansas City Chiefs vs. St. Louis Rams NFL Preview

In this non-conference match up between the Rams (6-7) and the Chiefs (8-5) both teams really need a win, as each needs to win to ensure staying in 1st place in their respective divisions. NFL betting lines have the Rams as slight 1-point favorites in this game with a total of 44.5.

The Rams are 1 game under .500, but they are still in first place tied with the Seattle Seahawks in the ultra-weak NFC West. The Chiefs are in first place also with a 1-game lead in the AFC West over the San Diego Chargers, who absolutely crushed them last Sunday.

In their last games the Rams were beaten badly in the Big Easy losing 31-13 to the New Orleans Saints and the Chiefs were embarrassed losing to the San Diego Chargers 31-0.

This season the Rams are 4-2 at home and 9-4 ATS and the Chiefs are 2-5 on the road and 7-6 ATS.

Chiefs’ QB Matt Cassel is the 5th rated QB in the league and in his last 8 starts he has 19 TD’s and 1 INT. He is questionable for this game after getting an emergency appendectomy last week and the Chiefs really hope he can go in this game. To say they struggled in the shutout loss to the Chargers is a major understatement. Kansas City gained a grand total of 67 yards in the loss with 19 passing yards and 48 rushing yards. If Cassel cannot go again Brody Croyle will again get the nod and last week he played terrible and is now 0-10 as a starting QB.

The Rams lost by 18 points last week and they did not play good D and rookie QB Sam Bradford struggled. He has thrown at least 2 INT’s in 3 games this season, including last week, and the Rams have lost all of those games. However, last week Bradford faced the Saints’ 5th ranked pass defense and this week faces the 22nd pass defense of the Chiefs, who gave up 219 passing yards to San Diego last week. Football betting

One big concern for the Chiefs on defense is containing Rams’ RB Steven Jackson. Even in the loss last week Jackson rushed for 96 yards averaging a legit 6 yards per carry. Even though the Chiefs have a pretty good run defense they did not show it last week allowing the Chargers to rush for 207 yards. If Jackson has a big game and Bradford does not get picked off the Rams have a huge advantage in this game.

Whoever is under center for the Chiefs will be facing a St. Louis pass defense that ranks 21st in the league and gave up 213 passing yards and 3 TD through the air last week. Even with Cassel Kansas City only ranks 28th in the league in passing yards per game, but if Cassel cannot go the Chiefs may be in big trouble.

One way the Chiefs can win with Croyle is if they can run the ball well. The Chiefs have the top-ranked rushing offense led by Jamaal Charles (1,177 yards 3 TD) and Thomas Jones (766 yards 5 TD). These 2 need to forget about last week’s debacle and get back to racking up the rushing yards. The Rams rank 12th in run defense and they have to contain the run and make the QB beat them through the air.

The big key in this game is if Cassel can play or not. If he cannot go Kansas City will have to run the ball well and play solid D. I do not see that happening, as while Charles and Jones will play better than last week the Rams will have a good game on offense with a big game from Jackson. The Rams will win this game and cover the spread and move to .500 on the season.

Betting Trends

Kansas City has only covered the spread in 2 of their last 7 games and has an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 road games.
St. Louis is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games and has an Under record of 6-2 in their last 8 home games.

Pick: Rams -1

One reply on “Chiefs vs. Rams Gambling Prediction Week 15 Odds”

St. Louis (6-7) needing a win to ensure its spot in first place in its division…GROSS. Can somebody just carve the NFC West out of pro football? Haha
