Jacksonville Jaguars vs. N.Y. Jets NFL Preview: Week 2 Free Pick

NFL Week 2 betting has arrived, we’ve got the point spreads, and our man Shea Matthews weighs in with a free nfl pick and preview for the matchup between the Jacksonville Jaguars vs N.Y. Jets NFL Preview.

NFL Football Previews – Jacksonville Jaguars vs New York Jets

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Maurice Jones-Drew pointed out last week that “no one expected them to win” against Tennessee and that their 16-14 win was a shocker. Well, MoJo, your team was actually favored over the Titans, so the win wasn’t Earth-shattering.

If the Jags really want to pull off a stunner, let’s see what they can do when they visit the stingy New York Jets this Sunday.

The question bettors have to ask themselves this week is: did the Jags beat Tennessee or did Tennessee beat itself?

Jacksonville Jaguars (1-0)

The Jags’ run defense, for example, looked good on paper, but Tennessee oddly ran just 12 times. It barely used Chris Johnson, its best offensive weapon. And Matt Hasselbeck, the aging, immobile mentor to Jake Locker, threw for 264 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yarder to Kenny Britt. The Jags’ “D” looked mildly improved but it still has a long way to go.

As for Jacksonville’s offense, there’s no comparison between facing the Titans and the Jets. Luke McCown didn’t do much against a weak Tennessee pass defense. Jones-Drew managed 97 yards on 24 carries but will have a tougher test against a Jets “D” that held Dallas to 3.0 yards per carry last week.

New York Jets (1-0)

The effort was far from perfect but Gang Green got it done against Dallas on Sunday night. While Tony Romo tagged them for 342 passing yards and two scores, the Jets came up with the big defensive plays when it mattered, tying the game with a touchdown return on a blocked  punt in the fourth quarter and picking off Romo to set up the game-winning field goal.

It will be interesting to see what the Jets’ offensive game plan is this week. Will they give the ball to Mark Sanchez again after he threw for 335 yards against Dallas? Or will they try to re-establish a running game that struggled last week? [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Jacksonville at N.Y. Gambling Trends:

Over is 8-1 in JAC last 9 road games.
JAC are 2-8 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
Over is 11-3 in JAC last 14 vs. AFC.
NYJ are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games in September.
Over is 20-7-1 in NYJ last 28 vs. AFC.
Over is 19-7 in NYJ last 26 games overall.

The pick:

My guess is that the Jets will go with whatever works – and something will against Jacksonville. If Hasselbeck could look good against the Jags, Sanchez should fare even better.

Also, look for New York to force Luke McCown to beat them. He couldn’t do anything special against a below-average Titans “D”; he may struggle against the Jets’ talented unit. Look for Jones-Drew to see plenty of eight man fronts as the Jets bottle up the Jags and win easily.

Jaguars vs Jets prediction: Jets 28, Jaguars 10

Money Line: OFF
Spread: Jets -9
Over/Under: UNDER 39
