Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Houston Texans Free Gambling Prediction & Week 11 Preview

Jags vs Texans NFL Football Spread/Handicapping

Jacksonville struggled against Indianapolis on a short week last week. The only good thing about playing last Thursday is that is gives them an extra few days to prepare for the best team in the league – Houston.

Jacksonville

For the third week in a row the Jaguars failed to score more than 15 points.  This team is pretty poor in all phases of the game but their inability to move the ball and put points on the board is their most glaring weakness.

It all starts with quarterback play and Blaine Gabbert is plain awful.  As a reference point even the heavily maligned Matt Cassel, who is fighting for his job in Kansas City, has more yards than Gabbert this season.

Whether it is the system, coach, or QB, they have to take more chances throwing the ball.  He seems to afraid to make a mistake but it is just ridiculous to complete three passes in a row and not get a first down.

The Jaguars have stark ATS splits this season:  0-5 ATS at home and 4-0 ATS on the road.  This week they have a huge number to cover at Houston and in a similar situation they covered at Green Bay last month.  Do they have it in them for another, even with Maurice Jones-Drew on the sidelines?  It might be too much to hope for.

Houston

I am among the many who was impressed with Houston’s win at Chicago last week.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

It was a messy, messy game and the Texans used their defense and running game to prevail. It wasn’t a shocker but it confirmed that this team is doing more than just beating up on AFC weaklings in building that record.  If they are feeling sore at all this is the perfect opponent as the Jags certainly aren’t packing much of a punch this season.

Defensive end J.J. Watt’s sack pace may have cooled but Houston’s defense has been hot. After giving up 42 points to the Packers they have given up just 28 in the three games since – all victories including games against Super Bowl contenders Chicago and Baltimore.  QB Matt Schaub isn’t doing anything fancy but with the way the rest of the team has been built they don’t need him too.  He is unlikely to sling his way to another 4000 yard season this year.

In the NFL we don’t usually see numbers as large as this one as it pretty much takes the best team in the league against the worst to make it happen.  That is what is happening here so don’t dismiss it automatically.  Houston has already beaten the Jags by 20 on the road so topping that at home is totally logical and likely.  I just don’t like giving that much chalk.  I will be passing but fire away.

Spread Pick: Houston -16.5
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Houston 31 – Jacksonville 7
