Monday’s matchup features a battle between two of the hottest QBs in the game right now – Andrew Luck not surprisingly and Philip Rivers very surprisingly.

The Indianapolis Colts have officially arrived in the top tier or two of NFL teams after their impressive come-from-behind win versus a very good Seattle team last week. Offense has been the name of their game thus far.

Andrew Luck comes into Monday night’s game having completed 97 of 156 passes (62.2%) for 1,144 yards with seven touchdowns and two interceptions. He was terrific last week leading the Colts to a 34-28 victory over the previously unbeaten Seattle Seahawks.

Reggie Wayne (28 catches, 365 yards and two touchdowns), and T.Y. Hilton, who’s coming off a five-catch, 140-yard, two touchdown game against Seattle have made life a little easier on their franchise quarterback and Trent Richardson, after a blockbuster with Cleveland has solidified a previously sketchy running game – Indy has rushed for 710 yards this season (4.7 yards per carry) and scored seven touchdowns on the ground.

Indianapolis is as complete an offense in the game right no – talented from top to bottom.

The Indy defense has been good this season too – a terrific compliment to their incredible offense. They are the 11th ranked defense in the NFL. Jerrell Freeman has been a monster – three sacks and two forced fumbles and Robert Mathis leads the entire league with 9.5 sacks from his outside linebacker position in his 11th year in the league. The Colts have also registered seven interceptions through five games, which is tied for third most in the NFL.

The San Diego Chargers are coming off a disappointing effort in Oakland Sunday but you can hardly blame Philip Rivers. Rivers threw for over 400 yards for the third time in four games in a losing effort and now has 1,610 yards through the season’s first five games. He has been buoyed by strong offensive line play and some stellar performances from a largely no-name receiving corp. San Diego’s running game has been a disappointment however – they will need the rushers to chew up some clock Monday – to keep Andrew Luck and company off the field. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Defensively, the Chargers have given up the sixth-most yards per game of any team in the league and they allow the sixth-most passing yards, but just the ninth-most rushing yards per contest. However they have allowed just 308 yards per game in their last two – a win against the offensive juggernaut Dallas and a loss to the offensively challenged Raiders. San Diego looks to have a “Bend, not Break” defense but will be seriously challenged against the Colts.

Betting Prediction

A few trends to consider:

• IND are 8-0 ATS vs. a team with a losing record.
• IND are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 Mon. games.
• IND are 2-9-2 ATS in their last 13 games in Week 6.
• Under is 10-4 in SD last 14 games in Week 6.
• Underdog is 8-0 ATS in their last 8 meetings.
• Road team is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 meetings.

The Indianapolis Colts have come west once already this year and in that game they absolutely put a whipping on the San Francisco 49ers.

I see the same happening here. The Chargers defense will definitely have a hard time with the Colts offense and the Indy defense has proven stout enough to slow the Chargers defense.

The Colts are reaching that elite status while the Chargers are mired in the C+ range. This smells like a 27-20 game to me.

Monday Night Football Pick: Indianapolis Colts -1 1/2
