The Houston Texans entered this season as one of the favorites in the AFC and through the first two weeks of the season they have not disappointed. The Texans have morphed to a run-first team the last few seasons – QB Matt Schaub isn’t going to wow anybody anymore. he has just one TD pass on the season – Schaub is a game manager trusted with the easy task of handing the ball off to the most feared rushing tandem in the league – Arian Foster and Ben Tate.

Houston owns the top defensive unit in the game so far despite playing some weak teams. They have given up just 72 yards per game on the ground and 124 yards through the air so far – incredible! The Texans will have their hands full with Denver at home – their first real test of the season on Sunday but this team is doing exactly what most expected.

The Denver Broncos fell back to earth a bit in Week 2 after an emotional end exciting win in Week 1. It is clear that Peyton Manning will be THE determining factor for his team this year. When he is on, the team will win. When he is off, the team will likely struggle. Need proof? Look at Manning’s numbers in Week 1 and 2. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Manning has weapons that could give the Texans fits. Demariyus Thomas, Eric Decker and Jacob Tamme have been solid so far but a bright spot that may be overlooked is the play of Willis McGahee who looked terrific in Week 2 despite the loss. He alone may keep Manning upright and healthy this year. Truth be told McGahee may be the best back that Manning has played with in a very, very long time. All of the weapons will be tested this week however against a Houston team that boasts one of the most impressive defenses in the game.

Betting Prediction: Denver is 2-6 against the spread in their last eight games, 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record, and 15-34-2 against the spread in their last 51 home games. Houston is 4-0-1 against the spread in their last five games overall, 8-1-1 against the spread following a win, and 12-3-2 against the spread against AFC teams.

The Denver Broncos have already played a tough defense and prevailed on home soil but Houston is equally as good as Pittsburgh and have a far more balanced offense than that of the Steelers. I love the Texans to get it done again this week and to prove why they are largely considered one of the favorites in the AFC. Foster, Tate and company will be too much!

Pick: Houston Texans -2
