Week 4 AFC Handicapping

As we head into week four of the 2008 NFL Football betting season the handicapping of matchups continues with a look at the AFC conference top betting teams.

Does Anybody Want to Go to the Super Bowl from the AFC?

The AFC is an absolute mess. Let’s take a trip down memory lane for a moment, shall we?

The New England Patriots were BetUS online sportsbook favorites by 13 points over the Miami Dolphins at home and lost straight-up.

The Buffalo Bills were favored by 10 ½ points versus the Oakland Raiders at home and needed to score 17 points in the fourth quarter to just win the game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were 3 ½ point online betting underdogs on the road versus the Philadelphia Eagles, took out the Eagles best player, Bryan Westbrook, and the Eagles’ quarterback, Donovan McNabb, and still managed to only score 6 points versus an Eagles defense that gave up 41 the week before.

Shall I go one? One of the most talked about teams in the off season, the Cleveland Browns botched a 10 point lead on the road versus the Baltimore Ravens and lost 28 to 10. The Browns were 2 point underdogs in that game.

It’s obvious that the AFC is a mess for online football betting fans. It’s almost impossible to find a good online bet when an AFC teams shows up to play. But there are few teams that appear ready to turn things around, either by covering or not covering online NFL betting spreads, and those teams are the ones that football betting fans need to key their future bets around.

Tennessee Titans – – They’re just a good team. Nobody has the full package that the Titans have this season. Terrific defense, great kicker, excellent coaching, and two great running backs. Kerry Collins is actually a better fit for their offense. This is suddenly the team to beat in the AFC South. For BetUS online sportsbook fans, it doesn’t get any better than a 3 and 0 team both straight-up and against the BetUS online betting spread.

San Diego Chargers – – They made a statement on Monday night by dominating the Brett Favre led New York Jets. They started out last season slow as well and then managed to cover in almost every game the rest of the year. It pains me to say this, but Phillip Rivers is a good quarterback. I expect their games to go over the BetUS online sportsbook over/under almost every week. I also expect them to start covering every week now that they’ve got their first win of the season.

New England Patriots – – I guarantee that the BetUS online wagering odds makers won’t make them a 13 point favorite against the Dolphins again. The key with this team is this weekend. They have to get Randy Moss involved. If they do, then expect to ride them to online wagering profits for a couple of weekends. If not, if Moss is held to only four catches for 25 yards again, then these guys are probably toast. They might be a good bet against – – or not – – depending on how they fair against the BetUS online sportsbook spread this weekend.

Pittsburgh Steelers – – I loved the Steelers when they destroyed the BetUS online betting spread in week one. Then, I realized that it wasn’t the Steelers, it was the Houston Texans.  This team is going to get the benefit of the doubt this entire season from BetUS online wagering odds makers. That means they could be a good bet against for more than a few games this season.

Oakland Raiders – – Okay, nobody knows who their coach is going to be, but they have beaten two online betting spreads in a row. Kiffin says that he hasn’t been told he no longer coaches the Raiders. Does it matter? Maybe this team doesn’t need a coach. Seriously. I hate to say it, but since that blow out loss to the Broncos this team has played much better as a dysfunctional know nothing team. Al Davis should just coach them.

Buffalo Bills – – I expect a big bounce back this weekend from this team. They’re too good on offense and defense for their effort versus the Raiders to become a habit. They’re favored by 9 points on the road versus the St. Louis Rams. Right now, I have to make that my best online football betting play in week four.

Indianapolis Colts/Jacksonville Jaguars – – Both teams are an iffy online wagering proposition right now. I say go with the Colts on the road if they are underdogs. The Jags? I’m not sure how much profit BetUS online sportsbook betting fans can expect to get from them this season. The NFC South sucks. It’s all about the Titans this year.

Denver Broncos – – Don’t you get the feeling that Denver and the New Orleans Saints are the same exact team? Two offensive minded coaches. Two great quarterbacks. Good wide receivers. No defense. There is only one word that NFL betting fans need to remember about the Broncos – – that word is over, over, over, over…

New York Jets – – Boy the shine dulled quickly! Yep. I guess Brett Favre isn’t enough to win games in the NFL. You have to play defense too. The Jets will probably get the benefit of the doubt from the BetUS online sportsbook odds makers but I’m not biting on this team. They can’t stop anybody on defense. I’m eating crow again because I thought that with Brady going down these guys could step it up in the AFC East. No so far…

Kansas City Chiefs – – Like the St. Louis Rams this team might not win a game this season much less win a game against the BetUS online betting spread. This team is horrible in every facet of the game. They should sign Nick Lowery, their kicker from the 80’s, just to bring some hope to their fans. They are an automatic bet against the BetUS online wagering spread every time they take the field.
