Week 4 N.Y. Giants vs Arizona Cardinals NFL Free Pick – Odds – Handicapping Preview

The New York Giants, coming off their most impressive performance in the young season travel east on Sunday to take on a Cardinals team that is coming off perhaps their worst performance of the year.

While the Giants made a huge statement by defeating division rivals, the Cardinals also made a statement with their loss to their lowly division rivals, the Seahawks.

The New York Giants have battled injury so far this season on offense and defense but has emerged looking pretty good indeed. The balance that the coaching staff had been preaching during the preseason finally came to fruition against Philadelphia. The running game finally woke up, the passing game was effective and extremely efficient and the injury depleted defense stepped up and held their own.

Eli Manning has had his share of critics this season but answered them all with a four touchdown performance against the supposed best pass defense on the planet. More impressively, he did it without Mario Manningham who sat out with a concussion and without a huge game from Hakeem Nicks. Manningham will be back this week and Nicks is due for a breakout game. They, along with new star Victor Cruz will certainly be a handful for the Cardinals secondary.

The two headed rushing attack of Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs finally broke out against the Eagles and the pair now averages a very respectable 4.4 yards per carry on the season. These two should be heavily featured against an Arizona run defense that is 27th in the NFL and give up 122.7 yards per game on the ground. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Arizona Cardinals squandered a huge chance to get a leg up on the NFC West last week against Seattle but squandered it with an unflattering effort. The Cards had some injury issues as well – Beanie Wells sat out last week with a hamstring injury but should play this week.

Kevin Kolb has given the Cardinals a little bit of offensive legitimacy this season. He has completed 62.5 % of his passes for 812 yards, five touchdown and three interceptions. He and Larry Fitzgerald don`t quite have a terrific chemistry yet, but signs point to their relationship being special going forward. A lack of a credible second receiving threat could be this team`s downfall on Sunday and for the rest of the season!

Betting Prediction: The New York Giants are in the second, maybe third tier of NFL teams while the Cardinals would be lucky to be considered a member of the fourth tier. The only thing that will bring New York down this Sunday is themselves. A letdown after their big win last week against Philadelphia is certainly possible. That said, the Giants have been one of the better road teams over the past decade and they are a team that prides themselves on their professionalism. It is true that they might be without Osi Umeyiora and Justin Tuck but this team has found a way to get it done despite their absence. I like the Giants to continue their roll and to put a little more pressure on the other teams in the NFC East!

Pick: New York Giants -1
