The Kansas City Chiefs are the last remaining undefeated team in the NFL but their perfect record is in serious jeopardy this week when they travel to Indianapolis. The Chiefs have taken advantage of a tremendous coaching staff, a soft schedule, a reborn defensive passion, a strong running game and explosive special teams play during their 3-0 start.
Offensively, the Chiefs have been a possession team – running the ball and being not being careless. This is a run first offense and why not? Averaging 160 yards per game, each of their two headed rushing monster, Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones, have averaged over 70 yards rushing apiece through their first three games.
Kansas City is moving the ball, chewing up the clock and not forcing Matt Cassell to make any ill-advised throws. 
Defensively, new defensive coordinator Romeo Crenell has brought with him a no nonsense brand of smash mouth defending. The Chiefs are no picnic to play against, thanks to the rugged approach of their new defensive boss.
The Indianapolis Colts could be in trouble. The fact is that they have been utterly exposed on both sides of the ball. They have a totally one dimensional offense and their defense can’t stop anybody. Hell, they made the Jacksonville offense look like a top tier unit last week.
The Indianapolis offense is once again totally dependent on Peyton Manning who is having one of his typical MVP-type seasons. But that’s where the offense begins and ends. The running game, outside of one sparkling performance against the Giants has been brutal. They are 29th ranked as a unit and give opposing defenses no reason to respect them.
This all adds up to defenses defending only the pass, doubling up in coverage and bringing pressure – not good if you are a pocket passer like Peyton Manning!
The Indianapolis defense is another glaring problem that could give them problems this week against the Chiefs. The Colts are giving up an average of 149.5 yards per game on the ground and will now be facing a Top 5 rushing team.
Betting Prediction:
The Kansas City Chiefs are 7-16 S/U in their last 23 games but are 4-1 S/U in their last 5. The Chiefs are 5-16 S/U on the road in their last 21 games, are 2-8 ATS and 1-9 S/U in their last 10 games at Indianapolis.
Indianapolis is 18-5 S/U in their last 23 games, 16-2 S/U at home in their last 18 but is just 2-9 ATS following a S/U loss as favorite.
This has all the makings of a close game. 8 points may seem a little rich especially since the formula for defeating the Colts is what has made the Chiefs so successful this year. Peyton Manning has had troubles in the past with Romeo Crenell’s defensive schemes and with an extra week to prepare, you know that the Kansas City defense will be prepared. I like the Colts to prevail in this one but I like the Chiefs to cover the 8 points.
