The Indianapolis Colts are finally in a position that they should have been in a month ago – in control of their own destiny and looking like they might just make the playoffs. This week, they travel to Oakland to take on a Raiders team that is truly one of the surprises of the NFL this season.

Indianapolis brings their league best passing game to Oakland averaging 298.07 yards per game. They also bring the worst rushing offense into Sunday’s contest. We all know what Peyton Manning will accomplish in the game – 300 yards and multiple touchdowns but the big question is whether or not the Colts will be able to build on a 155 yard rushing game last week.

Donald Brown had the best game of his career and now he gets to face the league’s 26th ranked rushing defense. The Colts will probably win either way but if the running game can support the passing game, the outcome will not be in question.

Defensively, the Colts have been good against the pass (11th – 209.50 yards per game) but have been miserable versus the run (28th – 135.79 yards per game). Darren McFadden has been on fire for the Raiders – hopes are that the Colts run defense can build of an impressive outing last week in which they held the Jaguars rushing attack to just 67 yards.

The Oakland Raiders are definitely a team on the rise. They are 7-7 on the season but are an impressive 5-0 in their division, including a sweep over the San Diego Chargers. Their strength just happens to match up very well with the Colts glaring weakness.

The Raiders will run and run and run. Darren McFadden has the Raiders the 2nd ranked rushing offense with an average of 157.50 yards per game. Darren McFadden has gone over the century mark in two straight games and Michael Bush has proven to be a valuable change of pace back. Against Indy’s 28th ranked run defense, expect the Raiders to have success on the ground.

The passing game is still very much a work in progress. They are 23rd in the league averaging 202.50 yards per game. If the Raiders have to throw the ball, they are dead in the water, plain and simple!

Oakland’s passing defense has been strong all season long allowing only an average of 197.29 yards per game. However, with Nnamdi Asomugha questionable with an ankle injury, the Raiders may have a tough time slowing the high powered Texans passing attack.

The run defense has been a major concern. They are 26th ranked giving up an average of 130.80 yards per game on the ground. If this unit can’t slow Donald Brown, Indy should walk in this game. Not stopping the run means that they will have to commit a few extra defenders to the line of scrimmage and that plays right into Peyton Manning’s hands.

Betting Prediction:

The Indianapolis Colts are 2-4 ATS in their last six games overall but are 14-6 SU in their last 20 games on the road. Against Oakland, the Colts are 2-4 SU and 1-5 ATS in their last six games. Indianapolis is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five trips to Oakland.
The Oakland Raiders are 4-1 SU in their last five games overall and are 4-2 SU in their last six games against Indianapolis.

This game figures to be close –  the Raiders will have some success on the ground meaning that there will be less time for Peyton Manning to do his thing. It is when Manning is on the field however that this game will be won. Manning seems to have shaken his slump and will come out firing in order to shut his critics up. He is still one of the most dominant forces in football and will prove just why on Sunday. The Raiders will hang around for a while, but look for the Colts to pull away in the end.

Betting Pick: Indianapolis Colts -3
