One team that can’t seem to get a break meets a team that appears to be getting more than their share of breaks on Monday, in Week 11 on the NFL schedule. The Houston Texans, fresh off one of the more bizarre losses in recent memory travel to the New Meadowlands to take on the Jets, who are the first team in NFL history to win consecutive overtime road games.

The Houston Texans will be playing for their playoff lives on Sunday. Loser of three straight games, they now find themselves behind the Indianapolis Colts, the Tennessee Titans and the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC South. Offensively, the Texans have been OK, defensively, they have been absolutely horrid!

Houston comes into Week 11 with the 10th ranked passing game and the 7th ranked running game. With a more balance offense, you would think that the Texans would be ready to break through but that is not the case. Arian Foster leads the NFL in rushing (920 yards) and touchdowns (10), but has stolen some mojo away from Matt Schaub and the Texans passing game. The fact is that Houston doesn`t have to rely solely on the pass to win games. Andre Johnson is still one of the game`s best and when called on, he will deliver.

The Texans defense has been an embarrassment. They are ranked 32nd against the pass, giving up over 300 yards per game and a respectable 15th versus the run. The Texans have made players like David Gerrard look like Pro Bowlers – not good!

The New York Jets are perhaps lucky to be 7-2 with OT wins over juggernauts Detroit and Cleveland in consecutive weeks. They are winning ugly but winning just the same. The defense has been typically stout and the offense, despite a small slump, is still looking pretty good.

The Jets have the 20th ranked passing game and the 3rd ranked running game. Mark Sanchez is coming off perhaps his best game of the season last week – he is turning into a good game manager and a poised leader behind center. LaDainian Tomlinson`s 565 yards touchdowns has led a scary two headed rushing attack. The offense racked up 465 yards last week versus the Browns.

The Jets defense has been all that was advertised. They rank 15th against the pass, are 3rd against the run and 3rd in scoring defense (16.67 points per game).

Betting Prediction:

Houston has been struggling. They are 1-4 SU and 0-5 ATS in their last five games. The Jets are 7-1 SU in their last eight games and are 4-0 SU in their last four meetings with the Texans.

The New York Jets are letting everyone hang around this season so the 7 point spread seems like a little much. The Texans are suddenly a desperate club who needs this game to stay in touch with the leaders of the AFC South. I think that the Texans respond. Even if they don`t win SU on Sunday, they should represent and cover the spread.

Pick: Houston Texans +7

One reply on “Texans vs. Jets: 2010 Week 11 NFL Betting Preview”

A buddy recently asked me whether I would take Clay Matthews or Brian Cushing. It’s a close one but I would take Matthews because – I know Cushing is only one man but just look at those collective defensive stats for the Texans. Just gross.

If the offense just does its thing and they can play SOME defense, the Texans should win. But how often has that happened this season? I don’t have much faith in Houston, I think they suck.
