The Packers started last year 2-3 (partially because of the now infamous loss against Seattle with the replacement refs). The team then got red hot and sat at 11-4 with one game left to play. They lost the season finale at Minnesota and weren’t able to secure home field advantage in the playoffs. In the end, it was the Packers lack of balance on offense and their disappointing defense that kept them from getting back to the Super Bowl.

Why can the Packers win the Super Bowl once again? You can’t start that conversation without first talking about Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers is absolutely one of the very best players in the NFL. Despite having virtually no running game the last two years, Rodgers has put up amazing numbers. He has an amazing ability to keep plays alive even when it seems like the play is completely dead.

Rodgers should have some more help in the backfield this year after the Packers did a nice job drafting two very talented running backs this offseason. Eddie Lacy from Alabama and Johnathan Franklin from UCLA both were great value picks in the draft for the Packers, and they both have the potential to do big things for this organization. Expect the youngsters to contribute right away. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Defensively, Clay Matthews is the team leader, and he is one of NFL’s best defensive players. He’ll need to stay healthy if the Packers are going to win it all this season. Green Bay will have to find a solid replacement for Charles Woodson on the outside.

The Packers schedule starts with a headliner game against the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick Park on September 8. You better believe that Green Bay will be fired up for that game.

Green Bay’s season ends with four straight difficult games against Atlanta, Dallas, Pittsburgh, and Chicago (at Soldier Field).

Green Bay is only three years removed from winning the Super Bowl, and many of their key players are even better than they were in that Super Bowl winning season.

The Packers are clear favorites in the NFC North, and if they can get home field advantage in the playoffs this year they could certainly get back to the top of the NFL.
