Cleveland Browns 2012-2013 NFL Futures Lines & Predictions

The Cleveland Browns fans are as dedicated of a bunch as you will find. Unfortunately, the Dawg Pound hasn’t had anything to cheer about in quite some time. When Mike Holmgren came over to run the team a couple years ago, the expectations rose for this team.

Last season the Browns started 3-3 before losing 9 of their last 10 games.

The Browns finished the season on a six-game losing streak.

The AFC North is one of the toughest divisions in football. The oddsmakers essentially are telling us that they believe anyone in the division can win it, except the Browns of course. The Browns are long shots because they simply have far too many holes all over the field. Let’s take a look at the 2012 Browns.

Offense:

Absolutely pathetic. It’s hard to describe how bad the 2011 Cleveland Browns offense was. Peyton Hillis played when he felt like it, and Colt McCoy struggled without any real weapons to work with. Peyton Hillis has left the team and Colt McCoy seems to have lost his job as the starting quarterback. The Browns will turn the keys over to rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden. Weeden is a 28-year-old rookie who the team is quite high on.

The big addition in the offseason was the selection of running back Trent Richardson. Richardson was an absolute beast at Alabama, and it’s hard to imagine him not having a major impact on the team. Richardson is a workhorse running back who has a great combination of strength and speed. Many scouts compared him to Adrian Peterson, and that certainly isn’t a bad guy to be compared with.

The Browns need some more productivity from the wide receiver spot. No one on this unit has been able to constantly get separation. Travis Benjamin was the team’s fourth round pick, and they hope he can prove to be a deep threat. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Defense:

The defense is much better than the offense for the Browns. In fact, Cleveland was in most games last season because of this unit. The strength of this defense is the secondary. Joe Haden is quickly becoming one of the best cover corners in the NFL. Haden broke up 19 passes last year. T.J. Ward is a physical safety at the back of the defense. Expect teams to struggle to throw on Cleveland once again in 2012.

As good as this defense was against the pass, opposing offenses ran the ball with ease against the Browns front seven. The Browns gave up 138 rushing yards or more nine times last season. They allowed 261 to the Texans and 290 against the Ravens. They must improve against the run if they are going to beat many people in the year ahead.

Cleveland Browns 2012-2013 NFL Predictions: 4-12

The Browns did well getting Trent Richardson in the NFL Draft, and I suspect he’ll help the team move forward in the future. Still, the Browns are way behind everyone else in this division. The schedule doesn’t help them out any either. Cleveland must play the Eagles, Chargers, and Cowboys in 2012. Look for the Browns to get beat up by the AFC North once again this year. It’s hard to imagine this team doing better than last year. Look for a similar season in 2012.
