Hopkins will hope to guide his team back into Superbowl contention, and it all starts this Sunday night when the Texans face off against last year’s darlings, the San Francisco 49ers.

The Niners’ will have the advantage of playing at home, where they are 13-6-1 against the spread in their last 20 games at Candlestick.

That’s going to be a tough task for Houston, who blew a 17-point second-half  lead its last time out.

The sad thing is the Texans should be 4-0. The offense has been fantastic as Houston ranks second in the AFC in total offense and leads the NFL in total defense. But holding on to leads has been a problem in its two losses this season.

The Texans feature the league’s No. 10-rated road run defense, allowing 95 yards per game, which they will need to be spot on as they face San Francisco, who knocked off the Rams last Thursday, ending a two-game skid, with a 35-11 win. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

San Francisco looked  good against the Rams on both sides of the ball, as the defending NFC champions had their best rushing  game of the year, while holding St. Louis  to 188 total yards.

The Rams was flat out unable to contain RB  Frank Gore, who is five yards per carry with two touchdowns,

Meanwhile quarterback Colin Kaepernick rebounded from a pair of poor passing games to throw two touchdown passes against the Rams. If he can build on that success, the 49ers may find themselves back on the top of the heap come November and this test against the Texans could be the turning point of their season.

Defensively, the Niners’ lead the NFC in total defense and will have their work cut out contain running back Arian Foster who is averaging 4 yards per carry.

Matt’s Free Prediction

This is the first meeting between the two teams since 2009, when Houston knocked of San Francisco at home, 24-21.

Every yard is going to be earned in this one, and points are not going to come easy.

49ers 20, Texans 17.
