Earlier this week the Redskins were favored by two points, but have fallen to just -1-point favorites. Funny too, as Washington is 13-0 at home to the Lions since 1981.

Detroit’s chances of a 2-0 start fizzled in the final minute of last week’s loss to the Cardinals, 25-21.

Quarterback Matthew Safford was Detroit’s primary weapon, connecting with receiver Calvin Johnson for 116 receiving yards.

Meanwhile, the Lions are still plagued by the same issues and mistakes that cost them narrow losses a season ago, and adding to their woes will be the loss of newly-acquired running back Reggie Bush.

Since his arrival in the Motor City, Busch has continued to add much-needed life to the Lions’ running game, until having to leave the game in Arizona last week.

His status is questionable.

If Bush is unable to start in Landover, it won’t help the Lions chances, as they face a Washington passing attack that has average 311 yard per game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Still riding on the tails of quarterback Robert Griffin III, the Redskins were hoping to make a return to the playoffs this season, but instead are off to a poor start, falling short to the Eagles before getting blown out in Green Bay in Week 2.

Griffin’s 3-TD performance was not enough to keep Washington from a losing cause against the Packers, 38-20.

RGIII has completed 62.9 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and three interceptions while being sacked four times in two games. And while his numbers look good on paper, he’s not looked all that sharp.

Defensively the Redskins don’t have any interceptions but they have seven sacks and three fumble recoveries, while the Lions own the league’s No. 25-rated front seven in terms of stopping the run, allowing 139 yards per game when on the road.

Matt’s Free Prediction

Detroit has the goods to be a playoff team, but they are going to need to avoid beating themselves.

And while the winless Redskins are a mild favorite here, I am not very confident they can get it done against the Lions.

This is a tough one for sure in terms of picking a straight up winner.

Nevertheless, when all is said and done, undisciplined teams like the Lions are the teams that the Redskins must win against, and they should be able to edge out a tight one here.

Redskins 27, Lions 24.
