However, history is against the ‘Fins who despite being a mild favorite, have failed to cover the spread against the Falcons in seven tries since 1983.

Nevertheless, Miami looks poised to rewrite history after beating the Browns in Cleveland and the Colts in Indy.

The Dolphins have been quietly rebuilding over the past few seasons and are now showing they are a legitimate contender.

Miami’s passing attack has led the way, and Ryan Tannehill’s 319-yard performance through the air was enough last time out, to earn Miami a 24-20 win over Indianapolis.

The running game is respectable too, as running back Lamar Miller gave the team 69 yards on 14 carries and a trip to the end zone versus the Colts. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Defensively, Miami has held its own, and survived 321 yards from Andrew Luck by forcing the Colts to attempt three field goals instead of three PAT’s.

Meanwhile, the Falcons beat the Rams 31-24, just one week after dropping their opener to the New Orleans Saints.

A disappointing start for a team that was considered by many to be the favorite to win the NFC South.

Atlanta’s problems? Their one dimensional offense and struggling defense that allowed the Rams to climb back into last week’s contest.

The team has relied solely on quarterback Matt Ryan and its passing attack, while its defense has fought to stop the pass. To add insult to injury — the team’s rushing attack was dealt a huge blow when newly-acquired Steven Jackson injured his thigh after three carries and had to leave the game against his former team last time out.

He should be ready to start on Sunday, however.

Matt’s Free Prediction

This is another tough game to call.

Atlanta is obviously loaded, but I am not surprised to see that the odd makers have made Miami the slight favorite here — someone has apparently taken notice of the team’s potential besides me.

I believe Miami is better than what most people think, and while they certainly could lose, I expect that they will come to play in their home-opener, inking an impressive 3-0 start.

Dolphins 28, Falcons 21.
