San Francisco

A busted coverage play and an offensive pass interference call are the reasons why San Francisco come into this game with some momentum.

Colin Kaepernick scrambled around in the back field and bought time for WR Michael Crabtree to sneak behind the defense for what would eventually be a 51 yard 4th down conversion pass.

This set up a Phil Dawson game tying field goal and led the 49ers to a 27-24 overtime win against the Saints.

49ers RB Frank Gore finally found some blocking and space last week, where he ran for 81 yards and a touchdown.  Gore’s 2014 campaign has been less than stellar as the big back has carried for only 553 yards and found the end zone just twice.

Gore is averaging 4.0 yards per rush, with his long only being 28 yards.

The 49ers defense will receive a huge boost as LB Aldon Smith returns from his 9 game substance abuse policy suspension.  Smith returning to action comes at an opportune time as LB Patrick Willis was officially placed on injured reserve and is out for the rest of the season with a toe injury.

This season, the 49ers defense is allowing 22.4 points per game.  Their average jumps just a little bit for road matches, where they are allowing 24.6 points per game.

New York

The Giants looked to be showing signs of improvement up until the second half of last weeks game against the Seahawks. QB Eli Manning continued to find break out WR Odell Beckham Jr. in the first half and it looked like the Giants were beginning to figure things out.

With the game tied 17-17 late in the 3rd quarter, Eli Manning was leading the Giants deep into Seattle territory.  His 1st down pass intended for Beckham was intercepted and the flood gates opened for Seattle.

Like the 49ers, the Giants will hope to receive a big boost with RB Rashard Jennings returning to their lineup.

Jennings has been a crucial part of all three Giants wins, where they averaged 157.0 yards on the ground.  To put into perspective how bad the Giants ground game has been, even with Jennings missing four games, he is still the leading rusher for the Giants.

The Giants have played the better portion of their football at home, in MetLife Stadium, where they have two of their wins and are averaging 24.5 points per game.

To have any chance at pulling off a win this week, they will have to mix in a heavy dosage of Rashard Jennings and keep Kaepernick off the field.

NFL Football Handicapping Trends:

  • 49ers are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 road games.
  • 49ers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games in November.
  • Giants are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
  • 49ers are 1-7 ATS in their last 8 meetings.

Free NFL Betting Pick: 4* Giants +4

With the return of Rashard Jennings and the Eli-Beckham connection becoming a reoccurrence, the Giants have a good chance here.  It took the 49ers a bit of fortune and luck last week or they would be staring at a 3 game losing streak.

Look for the Giants to establish the run game early and open up the play action pass for Eli Manning.
