Next up; Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

Dallas

Advancing to the 2nd round of the NFL playoffs has to be a giant relief for Tony Romo, Jerry Jones and company. Scoring the final 17 points in the 2nd half of Sunday’s Wild Card contest with the Lions and securing a spot in the Divisional Playoff with a fumble recovery, the Cowboys now head to Green Bay expecting much different weather conditions.

From warm temperatures inside the dome in Dallas, to frigid temperatures at Lambeau, Tony Romo has his work cut out for him if he hopes to pull off the road upset Sunday afternoon.

At this time of the year, the weather for Green Bay playoff games have consisted of blizzards and ice storms. While that won’t be the case come Sunday, the Cowboys will be flying into temperatures in the low teens and will take some adjusting to get used to.

Coming into the playoffs, the Cowboys were an offense that relied on the run game and DeMarco Murray. Rushing for 147.1 yards a game (2nd), the Cowboys typically would chew up clock on offense. However, even though they never seem to be any rush or have any sort of tempo, the Cowboys are scoring 28.9 points per contest. In their final 6 regular season games, the Cowboys went 5-1 and did not score less than 30 points in their 5 wins.

In their Wild Card win, the Cowboys failed to get Murray and the run game going and scored just 7 points in the first half on a 3rd and long screen pass play. Romo found some rhythm in the 2nd half and rattled off a pair of touchdowns and a field goal.

The Cowboys have seen 6 of their 7 road games go over the total this season.

Green Bay

Aaron Rodgers has hit the OVER in 2 games by himself this season. That says a lot considering the Green Bay Packers totals are typically in the high 40s or low to middle 50s. Scoring 55 and 53 points in consecutive games in the middle portion of the season, Rodgers and the Packers will look to avoid any rust from the week layoff and continue their offensive tear inside Lambeau Field on Sunday.

The cold temperatures have proven to be no problem for the Packers. Averaging 266.3 yards per game through the air (8th), the Packers averaged 30.4 points per contest. That number jumps to an eye opening 39.8 points per game at home. Easily the highest for any team playing at home, the Packers saw 7 of their 8 home games go over the posted total.

Rodgers threw for 4381 yards and 38 touchdowns in the 2014-2015 regular season. While it should’t be much of a concern, Rodgers is battling a calf injury and will be out of practice until late this week.

The Packers defense is holding opponents to just 21.8 points a game.

They’ll have their hands full with Romo and Dez Bryant on Sunday afternoon. If the Cowboys can establish a ground game early, expect some lanes to open up for the pass game.

NFL Football Handicapping Trends:

  • Over is 7-0 in Cowboys last 7 road games.
  • Under is 4-0 in Cowboys last 4 games in January.
  • Over is 9-2 in Packers last 11 games on grass.
  • Over is 8-2 in Packers last 10 vs. NFC.

Free 4* NFL Prediction: OVER 53

While this is a high total for a playoff game, a shoot out in Green Bay seems like a logical prediction.

Green Bay 38, Dallas 24

Both defenses aren’t bad, but they are vulnerable. Romo and Rodgers can find deep balls over the top and should have no problem scoring Sunday.
