The 49ers have overcome a lot this season with injuries, suspensions and some questionable play from a few of their stars while the Broncos – they have just kept clicking along, scoring at will and looking every bit the best team the AFC has to offer.

In what could be a Super Bowl preview, the visiting team isn’t getting a whole lotta love from the oddsmakers. Let’s take a look.

49ers

It seems like a long time ago that the 49ers were 1-2 but after three straight wins and the best defense in the NFL, San Francisco look very much like a contender once again. It was Colin Kaepernick that woke up and dominated their Week against St. Louis – he threw for 343 yards and three TDs and added 40+ yards on the ground yet again.

It was Kaepernick’s best game of the season – a good sign for the 49ers as we head into a matchup with a Denver team that will certainly score points.

Frank Gore had an off game on Monday but he had been San Francisco’s best offensive player the previous two weeks. Denver has been stout against the run so far this season and pro bowl guard Mike Iupati went down Monday night with a concussion. He is highly questionable for this week meaning that the ball could be in Kaepernick’s hands once again. But with the weapons available in the passing game, having to rely on Kaep is not such a bad thing.

This game could come down to San Francisco’s ability to overcome even more injuries. The D has been terrific so far but the injuries sustained by rookie cornerback Jimmy Ward and All-World linebacker Patrick Willis could be too much.

Willis would have been in charge of containing Julius Thomas and Ward would have been up against one of the host of Peyton’s outside receiving threats.

That said the 49ers have overcome all season long – the depth has been tested and has passed with flying colors so far.

Broncos

Peyton Manning will get a chance to break Brett Favre’s All-Time Touchdown record on Sunday night and don’t think he wants to get that distraction out of the way.

The Broncos aren’t melting the scoreboard like they were last season but they are still a threat to score every time they touch the ball. And the Broncos catch the San Francisco defense at seemingly the perfect time.

A point of emphasis this past offseason was defense and the Broncos appear to have succeeded in shoring up was once a weakness on this team. The Denver run defense has been terrific – near the top of the NFL so far – and they were largely responsible for Denver’s first two wins – against the Colts and the Chiefs.

Stopping Frank Gore and limiting Colin Kaepernick’s rushing ability will serve Denver well on Sunday night.

Offensively Denver could lean on the run OR the pass – Ronnie Hillman went off for 137 yards in relief of injured Montee Ball – or they could stick with their bread and butter passing game.

Julius Thomas is on record pace for touchdowns and Demaryius Thomas has been terrific this season. Has anyone seen Wes Welker though?

NFL Week 7 Betting Trends

• SF are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games in October.
• Under is 7-2 in SF last 9 games overall.
• SF are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games.
• Over is 16-5-1 in DEN last 22 games in October.
• Under is 6-2 in DEN last 8 games on grass.
• Over is 13-5-1 in DEN last 19 home games.

The availability of Patrick Willis is the biggest X-factor ahead of this game. Without Willis, Julius Thomas could win this game all by himself.

NFL Week 7 Betting Prediction

Simply put, a team has to be clicking on ALL cylinders to defeat the Broncos at home right now – and the 49ers, thanks to injury are not. Denver has won 14 of their last 15 home games – Sunday should add to that impressive total.
