Baltimore

The Ravens have started to fire on all cylinders recently, which means the rest of the teams in the AFC should take notice. This team was a little sluggish at the beginning of the year, but now they are showing why many consider them the favorite in the AFC.

The Baltimore offense has far more weapons this year than they have had in the past. Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh were added to make their receiving corps one of the best in the league. Ray Rice is one of the best all-around running backs in the NFL today. Joe Flacco’s numbers are still down so far this year, but in the last couple weeks he appears to be gaining confidence once again. Last week against Denver, Ray Rice had his biggest game of the year. If the Ravens start clicking offensively, this team will be extremely dangerous by the end of the year.

The Ravens defense just continues to be one of the best in football. Haloti Ngata is questionable for this Sunday’s game. Ngata is probably their best defensive lineman, so they need him to be able to play. Ed Reed will miss one more game before returning from his injury. Even with injury trouble the defense is shutting down the opposition. The Ravens are allowing just 14 points per game. They have the best third down defense in the league.

The opposition is converting on just 26.6% of their third down attempts so far this year. Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

New England

Randy Moss is now out of town, but the Patriots still have quite a few weapons on their squad. Tom Brady is having a big year and this team wants to prove they can get back to the Super Bowl once again. Can they exact revenge on the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year?

The Patriots offense hasn’t racked up the most yards, but they have done a tremendous job taking full advantage of all their scoring opportunities. New England is averaging 33 points per game on the season. Part of this can be attributed to their great special teams play, but this offense definitely knows how to get it done in the red zone. Tom Brady has thrown nine touchdowns and just two interceptions on the season. Wes Welker is healthy again and Aaron Hernandez has been a great rookie wide receiver. The Patriots have room for improvement, but they definitely have potential on the offensive side of the ball.

The New England defense has struggled to stop their opponent, but they have done a nice job buckling down in crunch time. Brandon Spikes and Jerod Mayo give this team two very good young linebackers that get around the football field very well. In order to get to where they aim to go the Patriots must get off the field on third downs. While Baltimore is allowing opponents to convert just 26.6% of the time, the Patriots are allowing a ridiculous 54.7% of third down conversion attempts to be successful.

The Pick:

The Patriots have won some games this year because they have forced turnovers and won the special teams battle. The Ravens defense will present a major challenge for the Patriots. I expect Baltimore to be able to move the ball on New England’s mediocre defense.  I think Baltimore has a good chance at winning straight up, so take the chance on the moneyline, or just take the three points.

Baltimore vs. New England Score Prediction: Baltimore 24 New England 20
