The Panthers are one of only two teams that will not have enjoyed a bye week by the time this game is complete, and few teams could use one like the Panthers. Carolina began the year 2-0 but has since gone 1-6-1, and is in desperate need of a win to gain some momentum going into the break, with visions still on the top spot in an NFC South division that remains wide open.

The Falcons, meanwhile, have some momentum entering this game, as they are coming off a road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers a week ago. The Falcons took that one down by a score of 27-17 to snap a five-game losing skid.

Running back Steven Jackson rumbled for a season-high 81 yards and a score on 16 carries for the Falcons in that one. Quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 219 yards with a touchdown and an interception, connecting with top wide receiver Julio Jones eight times or 119 yards, while fellow wideout Roddy White brought in six balls for 72 yards and a score.

Another 73 yards for 10,000 in his career. He has five touchdowns and 461 receiving yards in his last four games against Carolina.

Carolina’s last game was far more memorable. They were torn apart by the Philadelphia Eagles, 45-21 on Monday night. Quarterback Cam Newton threw for 306 yards and two touchdowns, but much of that came in garbage time.

He threw three interceptions and was sacked a franchise-record nine times.

Free Atlanta vs. Carolina Pick:

The Panthers have the luxury of getting this game at home, and for as bad as they looked on Monday night, they will be bringing more talent to the table in this one.

The Falcons haven’t been a good road team in recent years, and they’ll be playing their second consecutive game away from home.

Additionally, there figure to be some points in this game. Neither defense has done much to write home about lately.

NFL Betting Trends

The Panthers are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 home games, while the Falcons are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games.

The home team is 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings between these teams, and the Panthers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 against NFC South opponents.

The over is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings between these teams in Carolina, and it is 6-2 in the Panthers’ last eight games overall.
