Atlanta Falcons vs. Philadelphia Eagles NFL Week 8 Preview & Free Pick

NFL Handicapping – Falcons vs Eagles Betting Spread / Matchup

The Falcons are the only team in the NFL that has yet to lose and one of the main reasons is their play by QB Matt Ryan, who has many solid targets and has the 4th highest QB rating in the league.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Philadelphia Eagles Preview

On the other side of the coin the .500 Eagles (3-3) have gotten shaky play from QB Michael Vick, who does have 8 TD, but he also has 8 INT and he has lost 5 fumbles. NFL lines still have the Eagles as 3-point home favorites with a total of 44.5.

Both teams are coming off a bye and in the previous week the Falcons beat the Oakland Raiders 23-20 while the Eagles lost their 2nd straight losing to the Detroit Lions 26-23.

On the season the 4-2 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 2-4 and the Eagles are 1-4-1 ATS and they have an Over/Under record of 2-4.

The Falcons were not impressive in their win over the Raiders where they gave up a ton of rushing yards. That is not good for them and their 28th ranked run defense facing Philadelphia RB LeSean McCoy. He has been a solid RB this season and he is tied for 2nd on the Eagles in receptions. The Falcons have to keep him from having a big game of they may suffer their first loss of the season.

Vick has the arm and some great young WR’s in DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin and TE Brent Celek, but he has to be careful with the ball facing a solid Atlanta pass defense. The Falcons rank 4th in the NFL in forced turnovers and they have 10 INT.

Ryan has no lack of targets with the likes of TE Tony Gonzalez and the WR duo of Roddy White and Julio Jones. These guys will up against a Philadelphia pass defense that has been up and down this season and ranks 15th in the league. It would help the secondary if the Eagles’ pass rush can pressure Ryan in the pocket, but Philly has the 2nd fewest sacks in the league.

The Eagles run defense has been decent ranking 13th and they may have success against a struggling Michael Turner, who has a total of 100 rushing yards in his last 2 games and has not averaged over 4 yards per carry in those games.

In some betting trends for this NFC match up the Falcons are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 350 total yards in their previous game and they have an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 games.

The Eagles are 3-10-1 ATS in their last 14 home games, 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 games, and they have an Over record of 4-1-1 in their last 6 home games.

Jason’s Pick: For some reason I think the Eagles are still a good team and they will play well at home and win and cover the spread.
