NFL Divisional Predictions – Giants (10-7) vs Packers

A trip to this season’s NFC Championship Game will be on the line this Sunday afternoon when the No.4-seed New York Giants and the No.1-seed Green Bay Packers clash at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

Date/Time: Sunday, Jan. 15    4:30 p.m. (ET)
Venue: Lambeau Field, Green Bay, WI.
Broadcast: FOX
Giants at Packers lines by BetOnline.com
Point spread: Packers -8
Over/Under: 52.5

The kick-off for this showdown is slated for 4:30 p.m. and it will be broadcast nationally on FOX.

New York suddenly has that old familiar feeling of an epic run through the postseason after parlaying two season-ending routs over the Jets and the Cowboys with a 24-2 pounding of Atlanta as a three-point home favorite in last Sunday’s Wildcard Round into a ticket to this game.

It now has to take its show on the road where it went 5-3 both straight-up and against the spread.

The total also went 5-3 on the road.

The Giants come into this matchup firing on all cylinders with an offense that is once again running the ball and a defense that is once again getting after the quarterback.

It also helps to have an accurate Eli Manning firing the ball down field while avoiding any costly turnovers.

Green Bay is well-rested after last week’s bye but could be a bit rusty since most of its starters sat out the team’s regular season finale against Detroit.

None the less, the Packers will be tough to beat at home where they went a perfect 8-0 SU and an equally impressive 7-1 ATS. The total went ‘over’ in seven of those eight games.[soliloquy id=”82219″]

There is little question that Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense will put its fair share of points on the board against the Giants after leading the NFL in scoring with an average of 35 points a game. The big question is how their defense will hold-up after finishing the regular season ranked dead-last against the pass and in total yards allowed.

  • The Giants are 6-0 ATS in their last six playoff games on the road and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
  • The total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of their last eight playoff games.
  • The Packers are 4-0 ATS in their last four playoff games overall and 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven Divisional Round playoff games.
  • The total has gone ‘over’ in four of their last five playoff games at home.

The underdog in this series is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the road team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven. The total went ‘over’ the 53.5-point line in Green Bay’s 38-35 victory over New York in Week 13 as a seven-point road favorite.

Expect more of the same this time around as the Giants step things up to cover this time as an eight-point road underdog.

The Pick: Green Bay 31 vs. New York 28
