Both the Lions and Redskins come into week 2 of preseason play looking to build off wins in week 1.
The Lions dominated the Jets in every aspect of the game en route to a 23-3 win and the Redskins came from behind to defeat the Browns 20-17.
With the preseason schedule progressing forward, it’s expected both team’s starters will get more playing time here.
We’ll learn a lot this week as far as where both head coaches are at in position battles as both teams have a lot to separate prior the start of the season.

Kick off is set for 7:30 PM ET inside FedEx Field. The last time these two teams met was back in 2013 when the Lions defeated the Redskins 27-20.
The Redskins come in as small -2.5 point home favorites with the listed total at 40.0.
Detroit Lions
Matthew Stafford needed only 5 plays in his opening series last game against the Jets to march the Lions down the field and score a touchdown. While the Lions have many position battles to work out, Stafford is one of the few positions they are locked in at.
Matthew Stafford has proven himself as an elite QB in the NFL and will likely see the same playing time as he did in the opener. He’ll be in the first Lions’ offensive drive then likely be done for the game.
The main battle to watch will be at the running back position. The Lions have three extremely talented running backs in Ameer Abdullah, Joique Bell, and Theo Riddick.

Abdullah made the first splash of the preseason within the RB core as he rushed for 67 yards on 7 carries. That included a 45 yard burst into the secondary.
When Stafford exits the game, expect backup Dan Orlovsky to get a majority of the snaps. He’ll likely be the backup to Stafford this season so getting him work in now is vital.
Washington Redskins
Although the Redskins didn’t look sharp in their preseason opener, they escaped with a win in Cleveland to open the preseason 1-0.
The highlight of their week 1 game came from a 13 play 66 yard drive that resulted in a field goal led by Robert Griffin III. The drive consisted of 3rd down conversions along with a solid balance of run and pass plays.
While Griffin is the clear cut front runner to start, his backup Kirk Cousins severely outplayed him against the Browns. Cousins went 12 of 14 for 154 yards. Cousins has replaced Griffin in the past when Griffin would go down with injuries, but it still looks as if the QB competition is more than settled here.

The main receiver to watch here is Rashad Ross. The Redskins are so deep are the receiver position, it’s tough to see Ross making the team.
However, he made a name for himself last game as had 5 catches for 68 yards.
If he can continue to outplay the rest of the core over the next few weeks, expect Ross to make the decision more tough come seasons start.
