Who’s Losing Streak Will End Sunday? Lions Travel to Arizona in Week 15

Two teams on significant losing streaks will try to snap their funks when the Detroit Lions head to the desert to take on the lowly Arizona Cardinals. For Detroit, they will be looking to put an end to a five game losing streak while the Cardinals will hope to end an ugly nine game skid that culminated with a 58-0 loss at Seattle in Week 14.

The Lions haven’t played all that bad for a 4-9 team but the Cardinals have been absolutely dreadful after a 4-0 start.

Expectations were high this season for the Detroit Lions but they have seriously failed to live up to those expectation. They have been OK on both sides of the ball but more often than not they have found themselves on the losing end. What cures struggling teams? A trip to Arizona!

The Lions have talent – no doubting that. They own the best passing game in the NFL thanks to Matt Stafford and the best wideout in the game Calvin Johnson. The Lions average 307.77 yards per game through the air.

Balance has been a bit of an issue for the Lions offensively – they are the 21st ranked running team averaging 106 yards per game. But Mikel Leshoure is getting better as the season rolls on and in Arizona the Lions will get a crack at the league’s 30th ranked run defense. As I said before – a trip to Arizona tends to cure what ails most teams!

Detroit’s defense boasts talent as well but the numbers are a tad disappointing after 14 weeks. They are an OK 13th against the pass and are 20th versus the run but they allow 26.31 points per game – 26th in the NFL. The good thing for this defense is that they will have to be just average against one of the worst offenses the league has seen in years!

Ugh! Where do I start? The Arizona Cardinals return home this week after getting humiliated 58-0 in Seattle while playing against many of the Hawks’ second stringers for the majority of the game. Offensively Arizona is a mess and defensively the team has looks to have thrown in the towel already!

The Cardinals enter Sunday’s game as the worst scoring team in the NFL – just 14.31 points per game. The passing game is 28th in the NFL averaging just 190.92 yards per game and the running game is dead last in the league averaging 78.54 yards per game. With Kevin Kolb expected to miss another game, the Cardinals will be forced to rely on John Skelton or Ryan Lindley once again this week – I really do feel sorry for Larry Fitzgerald and all you Arizona fans! The Cardinals defense started the season strong and this unit was considered to be a test for any opposing offenses. That was then, this is now. Arizona currently owns a respectable pass defense – 5th in the NFL and allowing 197.08 yards per game but they have been shredded on the ground to the tune of 140.54 yards per game – 30th in the NFL. This unit looks beaten, they look disgusted and they appear to have nothing to play for.

Betting Prediction:

• The total has gone OVER in 8 of Detroit’s last 9 games when playing Arizona
• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Detroit’s last 5 games when playing on the road against Arizona
• The total has gone OVER in 13 of Detroit’s last 17 games on the road
• The total has gone OVER in 5 of Detroit’s last 7 games
• Arizona is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games when playing at home against Detroit
• The total has gone OVER in 8 of Arizona’s last 9 games when playing Detroit
• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Arizona’s last 5 games when playing at home against Detroit
• Arizona is 8-3 SU in its last 11 games at home

The oddsmakers seem to be giving a bit of an early Christmas gift in this one. You can find the line as low as Detroit -3! Even a 10 point spread would be acceptable in this one – Detroit will score their share of points – Arizona will not. To me this is the easiest pick of the week!

Pick: Detroit Lions -6
