Dallas has played well down the stretch but is coming off an overtime loss to the New Orleans Saints while the Redskins have won six straight games to put themselves in the driver’s seat in their competitive division. Buckle up folks – Sunday night’s game has all the makings of an absolute classic – remember the Thanksgiving Day game between these two sides?

If Dallas has proven one thing the last month or so it is that they are never out of a game – there is absolutely no quit in this team! Dallas looks like a team on a mission and despite losing in Week 16 their offense has been top tier the last month or two. The problem – Rob Ryan and the defense’s inability to stop anybody at the moment.

Dallas has definitely been up and down this season but lately they have been scoring in bunches – Tony Romo is a threat each and every time he drops back, Dez Bryant has been arguably the best wideout in the league and the return of DeMarco Murray to the lineup has made them multi-dimensional and extremely dangerous week-in and week-out.

Dallas enters Sunday’s crucial matchup with the league’s 3rd best passing game and the NFL’s second worst running game although, as mentioned, DeMarco Murray has made a difference to this team. The Cowboys are 14th in the league in scoring with 23.87 points per game but lately they have been much better than that number suggests.

The Dallas defense continues to be an issue – they are 23rd in points against surrendering 24.80 points per game, they are 21st versus the pass and 17th against the run. They, despite having a ton of talent simply aren’t the unit that we envisioned – Dallas has been leaky and far too dependent on Tony Romo winning games.

How about the Redskins? Robert Griffin III has totally turned around this franchise and has them in an improbable playoff position – amazing! He and the other offensive rookie Alfred Morris are a nightmare for any team going forward – talented and as confident as a first year player can be going into an elimination game. The Redskins head into Sunday’s game as the league’s 4th best scoring team – 27.20 points per game. They, thanks to their two rookies are #1 in the NFL in rushing with an average of 162.33 yards per game. Griffin III has the Skins 18th in the league in passing as well.

Washington’s defense had been a bit of a sore spot all season long but this unit has come together and is playing much better down the stretch. As it stands Washington is 5th against the run and third last in the NFL versus the pass. Against Tony Romo and company the Skins defense will certainly be tested – hopes are that Griffin II can deliver a legendary performance.

Betting Prediction:

A few trends to consider:

• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Dallas’s last 5 games
• The total has gone UNDER in 8 of Dallas’s last 10 games on the road
• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Dallas’s last 5 games when playing on the road against Washington
• Dallas is 6-2 SU in its last 8 games when playing Washington
• Washington is 5-0 SU in its last 5 games
• The total has gone OVER in 4 of Washington’s last 5 games
• Washington is 4-1 SU in its last 5 games at home
• The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Washington’s last 5 games when playing at home against Dallas

The last time that these teams met, the Dallas Cowboys were in the midst of a small slump – no such worries heading into Sunday! In what is essentially a playoff game, you have to like the experience versus the youth. The Dallas defense has seen RG III already and you can bet that their game plan will be tightened up ahead of this pivotal game. It all comes down to which defense will get the occasional stop – I see Dallas limiting Washington a little more than I can see the leaky Washington secondary slowing Mr. Romo. In that case I have to….

Pick: Dallas Cowboys +3
