Matchup | Preview

The Cowboys looked very good in Week 1 in defeating their nemesis New York Giants on the road last week and now for the second week in a row, face a hostile crowd as they look to remain unbeaten on the season. Standing in their way – the Seattle Seahawks who fell to Arizona on the road in Week 1.

Dallas looked complete and looked dangerous on both sides of the ball in Week 1 and proved that they will be a handful for any opposing team this season. Tony Romo was efficient and effective on the way to 307 yards passing and three TDs while Miles Austin and Dez Bryant were outshone by third receiver Kevin Ogletree who suddenly creates massive matchup nightmares in the passing game. DeMarco Murray was also back in form rumbling for 131 yards against what was thought to be an elite New York Giants defense. Facing a second top notch defense in as many weeks, the Cowboys look to have little worry that their offense can produce.

Perhaps the biggest and most pleasant surprise for the Boys was the defense and their Achilles heel – the secondary. Dallas was able to limit the effectiveness of a highly regarded offense in Week 1 and now have the pleasure of matching up against a Seattle offense that is at least two tiers below that of New York’s.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Seattle Seahawks looked OK last week in a loss at Arizona in a game that they probably should have won. Rookie quarterback Russell Wilson was able to largely avoid mistakes except for one interception and in turn he apparently gained the trust of his team. That said he only passed for 153 yards on 34 attempts many of which coming when the game was on the line in the fourth quarter.

Marshawn Lynch was highly questionable to start in Week 1 but he showed up and although he wasn’t uber-effective he gained 85 yards in the loss. He will absolutely have to be Seattle’s best player if the Hawks are to have a chance on Sunday.

Seattle’s defense was as advertised – relentless from the line to the secondary. There are no worries about the defense in Seattle. The big question is definitely going to be whether or not the offense can score enough to keep the Hawks in games.

Betting Prediction: Seattle’s amped crowd is a real difference maker – the 12th man is a phenomenon unto itself. But Dallas appears to be on the cusp of “elite team status”. They appear to have filled the gaping holes on defense and with the offensive line looking better than they have in years it is tough to see them being denied in this one. Seattle’s crowd will make it tough but the weapons that Jerry Jones has assembled will be too much. Take the Cowboys to make yet another statement in the NFC!

Pick: Dallas Cowboys -1
