***A defensive line that can’t collapse the pocket any more.

***A running game that can’t move the chains and may be without injured Ahmad Bradshaw.

***A quarterback who says his injured foot feels fine, but whose nose grows every time he says it.

No one seems to know what to make of the Giants, who have lost 5 of the last 6 and by all accounts seemed hardly bothered at all by the 26-6 slapdown they suffered in Denver on Thanksgiving. Observers in New York seemed baffled by how nonchalant the Giants acted after the loss and in the ensuing week, and there is concern that the team doesn’t really comprehend the dire straits it now finds itself in.

The Giants won 5 in a row to start the season and now stand at 6-5. Are they a good team that has just had a bad stretch? A bad team that got fat feasting on the likes of Washington, Tampa Bay, Kansas City and Oakland early on? Or basically a .500 team that has scored a few more points (272) than it has allowed (261)? If you know, please call Tom Coughlin.Sports Betting at Sportsbook.com

What is certain is the math. A Dallas victory in the Meadowlands turns the NFC East into a two-team (Cowboys/Eagles) race, and at the same time reduces the Giants’ margin for error to about the size of the tip of a ballpoint pen.

The Cowboys, meanwhile head east with tons of pressure on head coach Wade Phillips. Owner Jerry Jones has just about come out and said that finishing 1 or 2 in the NFC is a requirement if Phillips wants to come back next season. That’s fine except that the Boys trail Minnesota (10-1) by two games with 5 to play, and can only catch New Orleans (11-0) if the Saints’ carriage turns into a pumpkin.

The Cowboys are also trying to figure out a way to get the job done in the month of December. Dallas, in fact, has not had a winning December since 1999, and even former presidents from Texas can figure out that that comes out to a full decade. Not even the momentum of 6 wins on the last 7 games can do a heck of a lot to ease concerns in Big D.

One more red flag out of the Dallas camp: Field goal kicker Nick Folk already has 6 misses on his resume.

This season, and in a tight game he might have to make a kick in a stadium known for swirling, unforgiving winds in December and January.

So while the Giants’ season may be on the line Sunday, it’s not that much different in Dallas, where a limp-wristed finish to the season could result in an increase in the unemployment rate in the largest state in the lower 48.
