Point spread, ATS odds, and moneyline betting and preview article for the 2010 AFC Conference Title game Round NFL playoff clash between the New York Jets and the Indianapolis Colts…

Sunday NFL Betting –  Colts Will Outlast Jets

The New York Jets are a road underdog for a third consecutive week and while most pundits are smelling a blowout in this contest, the reality is that the Jets don’t really get blown out all that often.

The Jets are a smart team. They know their identity, they know their path to victory and they know not to exceed their own boundaries. Their game plan is to run the ball, play defense and don’t make any mistakes.

In the past two weeks, their opponent has made the mistakes, which has led to two wins but this week the Colts will play well enough to squeak by with a win.

Jets offense versus Chargers defense

Simply put, the Jets offense needs some help from their defense. The Jets feed off of turnovers and in the last couple of weeks, turnovers have sparked the offense.

Without turnovers and mistakes by the San Diego Chargers last week, the Jets would not be in this position.

Sure, they run the ball very well but it’s far too predictable and it’s far too conservative. Against the Colts, that will only provide field goals but they need more than that.

Colts offense versus Jets defense

The Colts can score on pretty much anybody, including this overrated Jets defense. Sure, Darrelle Revis and Jim Leonhard are playing extremely well right now but the defense overall is overrated.

They were pushed around by some pretty weak offenses (Atlanta Falcons, Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars) and the Colts can do to the same. The Colts are more finesse, but they can find the man that Revis isn’t covering and pick him apart all day.

The Colts have a significant edge at quarterback and a significant edge in experience. That will go a long way in this contest.

Outlook & Pick

The Jets have played well to get this far but to win at this point, they can’t simply rely on other’s mistakes. Running the ball will only get them so far since the Colts will be expecting it, which means that rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez will have to make plays.

The Colts are a smart, efficient team and while they won’t run away with this game, they’ll keep the Jets out of the end zone and do enough to make it back to the Super Bowl.

Pick: Colts

The longer the Jets can stay in this game the better their chance of covering the 71/2 if not outright win it. The Colt’s need to open up an early lead to keep New York from dictating the pace of the game.
