The oddsmakers aren’t giving the Browns a lot of love ahead of this game despite playing the Ravens tough in Baltimore last week but coming up on the short end of a 23-16 score.

Not a whole lot was expected from the Cleveland Browns this year – a rookie quarterback and a rookie running back have been leaned upon heavily so far with mixed results. The offense has been an issue for sure – they are 20th in passing with an average of 235 yards per game and the running game is a disappointing 27th responsible for just 76 yards per game. It’s not that they have played horribly; it is just that they have failed to execute at the most crucial times.

Brandon Weeden has completed 53.9 percent of his passes with three touchdowns and seven interceptions while being sacked nine times. Trent Richardson seems to be getting better every week and he is averaging 3.5 yards per carry and has three touchdowns and he has 15 catches and a touchdown. Things aren’t exactly rosy but there is a glimmer of hope for these two young franchise players.

While Cleveland’s offense has shown signs of improvement the defense is stuck in neutral still. As long as this unit continues to allow big plays it will not matter what the offense does! They are 28th against the pass so far allowing 286 yards per game and they are 19th versus the run. Against the Giants stellar passing game you have to figure that this unit is in a fair amount of trouble Sunday.

The New York Giants lost to the Eagles in Week 4 but they had their chances to win. The fact is that they lined up against a talented team on the road and lost. Panic time? Not quite yet – the offense has been clicking and the defense has yet to find their Super Bowl winning form. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The Giants and Eli Manning are the league’s second ranked passing offense – 321.5 yards per game. They line up against the league’s 28th ranked pass D on Sunday – this should be the difference. The Giants have struggled running the ball – 23rd in the league but Ahmad Bradshaw should be close to 100% on Sunday which makes New York much more potent. New York will score points and if the injured Hakeem Nicks comes back they will be a load for the Browns to handle.

On defense, the Giants have been just OK – 19th versus the pass, 21st against the run and ranked mid to low 20s in almost every other defensive category – uncharacteristic for this squad. Like last year the defense will come around and my bet is that they show up hungry in Week 5.

Betting Prediction:

  •  The total has gone UNDER in 5 of Cleveland’s last 6 games
  •  Cleveland is 5-0-1 ATS in its last 6 games on the road
  •  Cleveland is 6-1-1 ATS in its last 8 games
  •  The total has gone UNDER in 9 of Cleveland’s last 13 games on the road
  •  The total has gone UNDER in 5 of the NY Giants last 6 games
  •  NY Giants are 8-2 SU in their last 10 games
  •  The total has gone UNDER in 4 of the NY Giants last 5 games at home
  •  NY Giants are 3-6-1 ATS in their last 10 games at home

I have no doubt that the Giants will win this game but the Browns have had a knack of keeping games close this year despite the 0-4 record – a one point loss in Week 1, a seven point loss in Week 2, a 10 point loss in Week 3 and a seven point loss in Week 4. Cleveland isn’t that good but they have been stellar versus the spread – 10 points looks like to many to me!

Pick: Cleveland Browns +10
