Cincinnati

Other than Denver no team is hotter in the AFC than Cincinnati right now.  They have won 7 of their last 8 including back to back wins against divisional nemeses  Pittsburgh and Baltimore the last two weeks.

It definitely looks like the Bengals might be turning a corner but they will have to win in the playoffs to prove it…QB Andy Dalton to receiver A.J. Green is a fantastic duo that deservedly gets a lot of attention but the Bengals win with defense.

This team is 6th in yards allowed and 8th in points allowed.  Most importantly they are second in the league in sacks. On offense and defense this teams makes a lot of big plays.

They also have a nice knack for playing well in the clutch, winning close games when they matter the most…The Bengals have been cashing tickets too with a 9-6-1 ATS record after their recent 7-1 run.

Here is an interesting stat, the Bengals haven’t covered in a single one of their losses.

I like them to continue that streak – see score prediction to see how. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Houston

You have to wonder about the mental state of the Texans coming into this one.  On the last day of the season they dropped from the top of the AFC to playing on Wild Card weekend.  They are facing a hot team that is going to be highly motivated to beat them too.

I don’t like the way things are setting up for Houston…Houston is also a top defensive team ranking in the top 9 in yards and points allowed but they are more prolific than the Bengals on offense.

If they can get back to their roots of pounding the ball effectively it will be their best chance of advancing the next round.  These teams are similarly composed it will be fun to see them battle each other…Houston enters the playoffs having lost their last two games against a team bursting with confidence.

Recent NFL playoffs have shown that momentum as much as talent can be a difference maker which makes it hard to back the Texans right now, especially giving up points.

Plus I am not sure Reliant Stadium offers that much of a strategic advantage – it seems a little sleepy to me.
